This is from the Red Maple tree I have in my front yard. I was out doing yard work and taking photos of my garden, trees, flowers, etc and spotted this oddity. I never saw this growth before in the middle of the trunk of the tree. I love the way it just grew from the center of this large trunk part of the tree. Have you any odd growths on any trees in your yard? Or ever seen one?

no,but we did have two maples that spiraled around each other.ended up cutting it down,it grew too close to the house, but the funny thing was ants had moved in between the merge of the trees.

Heres an eerie looking old tree from the local Nature center I took last October. Strange looking. Looks almost like a dragon doesn't it?

No, but I definitely have to get a picture of it as it fell off and is like a big disc or two, it almost looks like it's part bark, and the underside of it is really weird! I really do need to be getting my own digital camera.. hmmm.. going shopping tomorrow..

I have noticed that too on some of the trees around here. I was always curious about it, but never really had much thought. Until one day I caved. When I was about eight, since I didn't know anything about nature, I pulled off. Thinking about it now makes me feel bad. I did, however, take it home and examined it. I've also seen mushrooms growing on trees. As well as moss. Nothing really unusual.

Umm, another reason they should allow you to see the whole discussion from your in box. If you are not on for a few days, this particular discussion is almost impossible to find, so I have to reply to see the picture..
