Do you role play?

I used to play Warcraft on one of the RP&PVP servers, and even there, there was not much of a role playing going on. Why do you think this is so?

I'm an old time D&D roleplayer. But, I've also been playing online gaming since about 1999 when I started playing EQ. In my opinion the online rpgs are not a great vehicle for role playing. It's easier and more fun to do in person. But there's another dynamic. I think the younger generation never really got a taste of roleplaying as their only source of gaming, so they think it is lame and truly don't have a sense for how to do it or how much fun it is. The newer games such as WoW (which I have played since it went live), are now broken down to nuts and bolts basically. It doesn't take long for someone to figure out exactly how to level the fastest, which class is most powerfull for this or that and how exactly to beat high end encounters the fastest. There is little time left for stopping and having fun along the way. And if you happen to be one of those guys or gals (like me) who like to experiment and take the long road and have fun leveling, then you are termed a n00b and dismissed as a lesser quality player. This is a long winded answer I know. /cheers ~r~

Well, I think when you start your character and do all those quest you're already roleplaying. Warcraft has a rich lore and an awesome storyline so I guess once you start playing the game you've already entered their world. Just my 2 cents. :)
