I just borrowed this book from my local library yesterday and was just trying to get an idea of what it's about before I start reading it.. I was familiar with the title, which is why I chose it. Has anyone read it, and if so, what is the general idea of this book? Was it as great as everyone seems to make it out to be? Is it a hard read?

Uncle Tom's Cabin, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, is considered a classic. It was written during the time when slavery is popular in the South and is even believed to be one of the trigger points for the US Civil War. It's the tragic tale of Uncle Tom, a black slave, and the cruel treatment he got from one of his Master, Simon Legree. It is a sad and powerful tale, and if you like intense human drama, you will probably enjoy the book.
