Do You Compliment People?

I try, but its hard sometimes. I do it mainly for my kids so they will see the importance in encouraging others. I'd like to start a campaign to compliment at least one of my myLot friends each day. I think we all need a kind word to promote our fellow man, don't you?

I agree. People appreciate it too - like using their names. What a wonderful idea, the gift is two fold, not only are you teaching your children to be good people, but encouraging others at the same time! Yay gitfiddleplayer!

Absolutely. Anytime we go out of our way to be kind, whether it starts out as 'natural' or ot is a step in the right direction. I bet its natural to you though. :)

I too seldom compliment ple, at most i will just say thanks to them.. Other than that, i will find it hard to compliment ple too.. haha.. But to one's family especially kids, it's important to compliment them other than scoldings, so that they will learn to become independant at a young age, be more mature in their thinking.. hehe

Its hard when your teaching and they're learning, but I'm really learning and they're teaching. Good thing they don't know that.

A complement neve goes amiss, and we should all learn to give out more to family, friends, etc. I love getting a complement, makes me feel good, so I do try to give them out when the situation arises, especially with children; it is so encouraging.

Kids have a hard road since we try to cram as much into their adolecence and since they're adults longer than they are kids we want to give them so much information so they will be equipt to meet life as adults. Complimenting them helps them keep on keepin on. Plus adults need it to.

I agree, sometimes it is hard to compliment others, but it is a good thing to try to do,and I always try to compliment people when I can,and I also agree sometimes it helps to get a kind word from someone, especially if the person you are complimenting has a low self esteem.

Thats true you could meet someone who is so down they are thinking about hurting themselves, and all you have to do is give them a compliment and it might turn things around for them.

I also try to dole out compliments because whenever I'm at the receiving end, my morale and self confidence always soars. However, it's really difficult to keep giving compliments to people especially when things are going on. I agree with you gitfiddleplayer. When I read an interesting post, I try to let the myLotter know that it was an interesting post that really made my day. I don't know if it helps but I'd definitely feel great if someone from the community vocalized his or her appreciation for a discussion I started or a response I made.

Everyone needs an "atta boy/girl" so they know that their effort wasn't in vain. Compliments aren't like contstructive critisism, some people don't know the difference.

I find that sometimes all it takes is one kind word to really brighten a person's day or give them encouragement to keep trying even when the odds are stacked against them. Last night I was helping my oldest daughter practice for her Jr. High cheerleading tryouts. She just can not get the toe touch jump. I could tell she was getting frustrated and feeling bad. I told her that I knew she could do it and asked her to try one more time. It still wasn't anywhere near what it needs to be but it was better...I told her it was better and she wanted to try some more. She still has a lot of work but they have improved.

Teaching a child or teen anything causes parents to forge their way, I have to halt and show them the way. I try to give direction so they at least have a starting point. I encourage them and compliment when I see them struggling. You sound like you've been there so you know a lot of hard work and a lot of complimenting is the key to self success.

Sure I do, only if it is really sincere. An honest compliment can really uplift a person and motivate him or her to do better in what ever he or she is doing. I notice that when I compliment people, it comes back to me. I get compliments too! So there, what goes around, comes around.
