Job appraisals were invented to make better employees out of otherwise normal people like you and me. It is meant for exchanging viewpoints and expectations.
Of course comments made should be taken with a pinch of salt, and sometimes some are just plain bull ( depending on what kind of people are appraising you).
But does it spills over into an individual's personal life? Does genuine constructive comments changes a person character-wise and personality wise?

I guess they can be inspiring, a bit like positive thinking, everyone likes to be appreciated in what they do, and everyone wants to please so I think most people would inspire to get good appraisals, it is like getting an award I guess.
