What would you do for a loved one?

Ok, there was another discussion on smoking and drinking and the person asked which was worst doing non-stop, but if you have EVER lost a loved one to either or both of these addictions, it is painful. So my question to you is, how far would you go to stop a loved one from slowly killing themselves this way. Would you find someone to help you confront the person? Would you give up easy? Would you involve the WHOLE family or do this quietly? What happens if it wasn't a loved one, but a dear friend of many years? This had happened to both of my older boy's grandparents about a year apart, they lost them, one was a heavy smoker and the other was both a heavy drinker and smoker. What would YOU do for a loved one or friend to save them? Thanks. This is not an easy topic.
