Tough love?

How far would you go for tough love on your child? Teen? If you have troubled children or teens how far would you go for tough love? Would you put them out of the house, lock them out? Would you take thier doors off of the hinges? Room checks? Alarm systems? How far would you go to protect them from themselves? I have 4 boys and a couple have given me great challenges in raising them. I have done room searches, removed doors, taken clothing, and pressed charges on them. How far would you go to help your troubled child? My son's probation officer had even asked me if I would GIVE my child to foster care! NO WAY! I love my son, but I could NEVER do this to get my son help. He already things that I don't love him and want him and if I would do that, I would loose him forever. Now, when he was hurting himself and was trying to hurt us and had planned on hurting us, I took him to the hospital for a couple weeks stay, intensive programs and got him help in that way. No way would I give up my child. He is 15 years old, I wanted him, he is my flesh and blood to get help for him, not some other family. How far would you go for tough love? Thanks.

Have you considered a program such as Boys' Town. There are a number of residential programs that work with problem teens. I am particulary familiar with one in Missouri called Heartland Christian Academy.

Most programs involve signing custody over to people short term and I am NOT taking that chance. What is the program like near you? We don't have a Boy's Town near us.

I am not sure how that issue is handled with this particular place. My neice taught in the school and lived in the community. It's a rural area and the teens work in various aspects of the farm. Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://www.heartland-ministries.org/

Though, I do believe in tough love, that is kinda hard to say until you are in that situation.I wouldn't have a problem taking the door off the hinges if needed, or searching their room, but as to just how far I would go, thats hard to say.
