What do you think about California legalizing gay marriage?

I'm ok with it, actually. The ones who want to marry usually have relationships of many years duration. Being gay or lesbian is, for the most part, not a lifestyle that people choose. There is actually a genetic reason for being homosexual, despite what the religious zealots say.
People are saying that this hurts the institution of marriage but I can't see it affecting heterosexual marriages, how could it? If you know, please enlighten me. I see this new law in California as compassionate and improving the quality of life for a small group of people who can't help who they are.

Well i must agree. Being gay or lesbian is a genetic reason that one can not change. Religious zealots have obvious reasons to disagree with this law, because making it legal only brings the danger of people starting to question what religion says one step further.
As long as the gay or lesbian do what they want in their intimacy, without obligating anyone else to it, i have no problem with them. I am only against those manifestation (gay fest and other like that) where the people participating are actually creating a more negative image to the gay community rather then helping it.
Have a nice day.

That's a good point about the festivals and such. No reason to throw it in peoples' faces, I guess they don't know any other way to educate the public. They need a publicity team if they want to change opinion, not demonstrations.
Thank you for your reply, very interesting point of view!

I personally think that it is wonderful. I am not gay but there really is no difference between gay and straight people and the deserve the same "rights" as we have they pay taxes fight for our country they should be allowed to share their lives with the person that they love. I use to live in California and i loved it i cant wait to go back with my husband and i know alot of my gay friends will be moving there too way to go cali !!!!

We've had homosexuals since just about the dawn of time. It's time we stopped treating them as trash. They don't choose to be that way and shouldn't have their lives made miserable by archaic laws and ignorant prejudice.

I guess I am a religious zealot cause I am against the ruling. I am sorry if that offends someone but I have a right to my opinion also. I just feel that marriage is to be between a man and woman.

I understand your opinion and respect it. Marriage was invented to protect women and children financially and try to make the man stick with one woman (fat chance). It's also an expression of love, a declaration that one person is the only one you want.
I don't think it will erode the sanctity of marriage. A lot of these gay couple have been together for decades. Look at those Hollywood actors who marry for anywhere from a day to a few months then get a divorce. That's not right, either. At least these gay couple who want to be married are committed for a lifetime, most of them.
Just something to think about. It won't change your opinion but it may make the issue more human to you.
