Do you make freinds on facebook?

I've been using my facebook account more often lately and I noticed that once in a while people I don't know would invite me to be an online buddy. I'm really hesitant when it comes to stuff like this because I don't want to be scammed. Furthermore, I'm a little shy about sharing my photos and information with strangers of friends of friends who I've never met before.
However, I was able to speak to an old friend who claimed that she met her boyfriend through Hi5 which is rather similar to Facebook. I was really shocked at first because I didn't think that it would be possible to actually cultivate friendships online, but my friend was able to meet someone she fell in love with in cyberspace! They've been together for over 2 years now which is pretty amazing considering that they never knew each other until Hi5.
So just wondering, have any of you made friends online? How does it work do you meet up somewhere?

Yep i am having a lot of friends at the FACEBOOK and that is very much nice experience to have a large network there at that site and i really enjoy there a lot with my friends and i don't think there should be any problem in having the friends online.
I have a lot of friends with whom i met later after having the friendship online and most of them are my nice friends so it is really a good experience for me either.Main thing is the trust that we have to put in the other then there is not any problem to have the friends online.
As far as the sharing of photo is concerned that is only to be shared with the online friend who is trustworthy that is the thing to be kept in mind.
