I need tips about getting my son to stop the thumbsucking!

My youngest is an avid thumbsucker. He is a little bit over two, but it already had an impact on his teeth with one of the top front ones being bent outward. We tried putting bad tasting stuff on it, but he doesn't care. Does anybody have experience with this? Any suggestions?

I thought they made something that you could put on the thumb, which kinda is unpleasant if they suck the thumb I agree. I would change to a paci, because while he is to old for that also, at least it wont be doing anymore damage to the teeth. I would call his dr and ask for suggestions!

The doctor and the pediatrician just told us to discourage it. Anything we put on his thumb, he just makes a face for a while until it's sucked away. Then he is happy go lucky again. It doesn't discourage him.
Oh, they also said not to substitute with the pacifier, because that would just have the same effect on the teeth.

What does his dentist say...is it bad enough that he is concerned? Two is still pretty young which is why I'm asking about the dentist. Have you tried a pacifier...one of the natural shaped ones?

The pediatrician and the dentist both just said to discourage it without much further suggestions. They did say not to substitute with a pacifier as they tend to cause the same damage.

Oh,god what a tuff challenge that youe facing and it is very hard to deal with such cases as the docs prefer to use very sensitive methods to come out of it and not bad about your idea and continue the same as patience is needed very much in these type of issuses and dont lose it and keep trying the same method and did yo tried with the neem leaves,which is bitter and i think most of the kids dont like this taste try this and all the best.
