What would you do if you saw a snake in the grass in your yard?

Would you leave it alone? Would you kill it? Bring it in and raise it as your own if it was a non-poisonous snake or doesn't that matter? Would you run? I'm not sure what'd I'd do. I'm not afraid of these garden snakes, but I might act a little differently if it was a cobra.

We have garter snakes here and no posionous ones unless theyve escaped from a habitat or zoo. We catch them and let them go after a little bit. When i was a kid we used to catch them put them in the wagon and see how many we could catch. Once we went and caught frogs to feed them. It was suprising to hear the frogs scream AFTER the snake had eaten them. MY one aunt refused to let her kids come stay at the farm with us for almost a year after that. oops, mom told her it was a lesson in biology/science.

Interesting story. I've never heard a frog scream, actually. That was a good explanation from your mom!

It made an impression on all of us. We all remember that day and its frequently brought up, much to my aunt's dismay.

I'd call the RSPCA..there ARE no wild snakes in Ireland! Legend has it St Patrick got rid of them all...

If it were a grass snake I would leave it , and if it were a rattler I would kill it so no one would get bitten. also if it were a bull snake just chase it away as it is not poisonous

Hi. I dont know really Ive never seen one face to face. ACtually I have but they were inside a glass aquarium in the zoo we visited. I kept tapping the glass because the snake was crawling up on it. We had a clear and close up view of the snakes underbelly. Most of my classmates and friends wouldnt even dare be close to the glass cage themselves. I can say im not afraid of them but I dont know how id react if im face to face with one of them. I guess my reaction would be to just freeze up. I get that way sometimes when Im surprised by something and I dont know what to do. Then my mind would be blank and then after a few minutes my mind would start to work and Ill start to think. Id wanna get out of there but I wouldnt want the snake to be startled and attack me so its either Ill run away as fast as I can or freeze up and shout for someone to help me. There was actually an incident with my cousin. They were visiting the farm and she stayed in the car while her parents were talking to the people. She had the urge to look under the car and so she did but she kinda lied down on the seat and popped her head down. She saw a snake that was very very close to her face! She immediately popped her head back inside the car and shut the door. She told me the snake was digesting a bird. She's afraid of snakes and how lucky she was!

It entirely depends on what kind of snake it is as to what I'd do with it. If it's a regular garden snake, or a non-poisonous one, I just take a pitch fork and a shovel and move him over to where the fields are and release him there. If it's a rattlesnake, I usually run the other way and stay out of his reach. We have this other kind of snake here that is aggressive, yet not poisonous, so with them I just get my sharpened hoe and kill it. I've had them get into my garage, and if they're a non-aggressive or non-poisonous one I just remove them to elsewhere outside. They are beneficial in the garden.

My eyesight isn' that good, so I would not be sure if that snake was a safe one or a harmful one. I would not be scared, I'd just keep a sae enough distance, so as not to get hurt.

Chances are the snake is more afraid of you than you are of it. If you have humane officers that patrol your area you can call them to come and relocate it. Snakes aren't a danger to humans unless they are scared, then you might end up with a bite on your ankle. I doubt I would ever kill one unless it was some giant anaconda and it was swallowing a child or pet .. but I highly doubt that would happen in my area unless it was someone's pet snake that got loose.

Very true. Most critters are usually more afraid of a human, than vice versa.

Well Ive never seen any gardener snakes in our lawn but I remember when I was mowing my neighbors lawn there were some. I am not affraid of them or anything its just they shock me like when I step on them and I think there a twig from a branch. And I wouldnt want to run one over with the lawn mower because I would feel bad for it and it would be disgusting and probally smell.

I would kill it if it were poisonous. I have 3 puppies that go outside daily, so I cant afford to risk a poisonous snake around the yard. If it were non-poisonous, I would probably just take a rake or something and scare it away.

I have seen many, poisonous and also non poisonous.I have seen cobra many times. It used to come regularly after my father passed away, that too regularly around 1 pm, every Thursday. We as hindus will not kill any cobra because we believe them to Gods. They will not do anything unless you harm them. They just bite when they are scared of their own lives. We had two dobermans at that time. Once they were loose. They were on either side of the cobra with the cobra hissing at them. When we took the stick in our hand, dogs ran off and so the snake also left silently. Nothing happened. Now that I have a dalmatian, she has killed three non poisonous snakes, when I was not there, quite big ones they were more than 5 feet long. I have had my fair share of seeing snakes. I am actually not scared of snakes. I can stand there and watch them where they go.

I am deathly afraid of snakes. Most of the time when I see one, I am rendered completely useless, I can barely move. My only two options would be to run and/or leave it alone. I'm not even capable of killing them because I can't get close enough to them. Sad I know... And yet I still want to move to the country eventually...

Hmm...the only snakes I've got close to are harmless. You must have poisonous snakes there? Oh, and yes, living in the country is great. I used to live there.

Snakes are dangerous man.In daily lives a lot of small children get bitten by snakes when they play in the lawn grass.I would kill it if it is a small snake. If it is a big one I wouldn't dare,i would call the fire recsue department. It is for good.
