Listening to the Blue Angels fly over the phone with my daughter

I used to live near an Air Force base and every year they would hold an open house to celebrate Armed Forces Day. I would take my kids every year to see the jets, helicopters and other military equipment up close but the highlight of the day was always watching the U.S. Navy's precision flying group, the Blue Angels, perform. Now, most of my children are grown and I'm separated from two of them by 1,000 miles since I moved to Florida. Today was the annual open house at the base and my middle daughter went with her boyfriend. When the Blue Angels started their performance she called me from her cell phone so that I could hear them. She gave me a play by play as they passed overhead in different formations and moved closer to the landing strip so that I could hear them land. I thought that was so sweet of her because she knows how much I used to enjoy watching those jets fly and that I don't have the opportunity to see them down here. Sometimes caring comes in odd forms. Today it was in the form of jet engine noise over the phone and she will probably never know how much her thoughtfulness meant to me. Just sharing a little bit of niceness in an othewise normal day.

I've always believed that and try to do what I can to offer acts of kindness to others. It's easier down here in the south because people are friendlier.
