Dishes - sponge or cloth?

For those of you that cannot afford a dishwasher and managed to find themselves in a residence without one, doing dishes is a regular household activity. As I was scrubbing down mine a few minutes ago I wondered (thanks to by addicition to this community) how all of you did your dishes? Do you use a regular sponge or the kind with a scrubber on one side? A dish cloth? A plastic scrubber? Steele wool? One of those weirdly cool hand scrubbers where you put the soap in the handle? I use a two sided sponge, with a scrubbing pad on one side and regular sponge on the other.

i actually like doing the dishes... i find it a good way to pass time. lol... but i hate doing the spoons and forks though. we dont have a dishwasher but im hoping to buy one sooner or later. but as of the moment we are using a two sided sponge like you the one with a pad on one side and a regular sponge on the other. i usually buy a lot of these because after a week or a week and a half i change the sponge.

I have a dishwasher, but I have lots of dishes that I wash by hand. I usually just use a washcloth on them. I have a sponge with the scrubby stuff on the other side that I use on SOME pots and pans.

We don't use any kind of dishwasher at home. Everything is hand-washed. Like you, we use a two sided sponge, with the regular yellow sponge on one side and the scrubbing pad on the other side. The scrubbing pad is used for stubborn stains, mostly on pots and pans. For all the other dishes like bowls, plates, forks and spoons, the yellow sponge can adequately do the job.

I have a dishwaser but I don't use it I find you can get your dishes cleaner by using your hands. I use a dishcloth to wash my dishes I feel sponges keep to much bacteria traped inside those little spurs and dish clothes I can put in the washing machine in a hot water cycle and wash them and keep using them.

With being in the restaurant business I learned alot about bacteria and I no long use sponges. I choose to use handiwipes that I can wash and when they are worn just toss them. I use sos pads for the pots and pans and I only use them once. I was very suprised to find out all the bacteria that hide in sponges. I refuse to use them if you all only knew lol .. If you are using sponges I would suggest that you find an alternative for them. Happy washing

I wish I could afford a dishwasher. I get sick of doing dishes! It's twice a day for me because one I clean my husband makes a mess right away. I feel like a maid around here most of the time. Anyway, enough of my complaining. I use the same thing as you, a two sided sponge. I tried using a cloth but it just doesn't do the job. Thankfully I got all my housework done today. :)

All what ever will take care of the dishes no matter how dirty. When you think about it all of the products that you have named are needed at some point so you have to keep all of them handy for those just in case moments. Especially when you have pots, and baking pans.

My husband and I don't have a dish washer in our house. We hand wash our dishes like most people in our country and in Asia. I think having a dishwasher is kinda like a western thing. I use a regular sponge with netting to wash the dishes and the non stick cookware, a green scouring pad for those dishes that needs a bit more scrubbing and a Amway scrub bud made from stainless steel material for scrubbing the stainless steel pots. The scrub bud is very useful and it goes well with the metal cleaner for shining the pots.

I love washing the dishes and it is my job in our house that I wash the dishes. We don't have room for a dish washer and i wouldn't have a dish washer as I think they are a waste of time. There are five of us in our house, sometimes six when our daughter comes home to stay. I use a two sided sponge, onewith a scrubbing pad on one side and on the other side just a sponge. I buy these because they are value for money and I sometimes use one a day so they are good value. A funny story for you. We got down from the dinner table one day and my husband drcided that he was going to wash the dishes. I said that I wasn't going to dry and put away, our eldest daughter also said that she wasn;t going to to both! So my husband said, wel it doesn't look like I am washing up as I'm not doing it all on my own. so I got to do the washing of the dishes and hubsband dried and daughter put way!!

i have never liked sponges i use a dishrag & put it in the washer w/soap & bleach after i use it one time. i have read where sponges hold alot of germs. of course u can wash them in the washer to "but" how many people do? i use a stanley scrubber that never rusts & i wash it out real good or sometimes if iam going to run my dishwasher i put it in there. i wash alot of things by hand such as my iron skillets etc.

I use a cloth and a sponge, I usually use a two sided sponge on my pots and stuff. If my stove needs a good scrubbing, I sprinkle a little baking soda on it and use the scrubby side of the sponge. Baking soda works great on grease that has caramelized on the stove.

I do have a dishwasher that wash all my dishes that are in there in one time. It is awesome. I do have scrubs and sponges. I do other kinds of work in my house. Yeah, having a dishwasher is a lot better. Well, I am not sure that it is energy efficient. I have all kinds of cloths to wipe down surfaces.

Dishwasher? LOL! Many times i didn't even have a sink. Camped out once for 3 1/2 years. Right now im renting a basement from my son friend. There isn't even a kitchen let alone a sink. I cook on hotplate and use appliances. i have a microwave, toaster oven, rotisery oven for larger things. As well as other appliances. I tote my dishes to the bathroom to wash in the sink there. Using the plastic dish tubs. All works out ok. As for what i wash the dishes with... i use a cloth...a clean one everytime. I hear the sponges get a lot of bacteria on then and really unsanitary
