Couching your husband to be romantic

ok, so today was my husbands first Saturday off in quite a while. We made plans to sleep in, go get some brunch and then head to a really cool National Park that we'd never been to before. So our Saturday morning started out great, no problems. We get to the National Park and I had pictured us taking a short hike, sitting and talking in the woods or on the grass or something romantic like that. Well we end up hiking but down and then back up 1200 steps to the bottom of a gorge. :( I thought it would be fun but that was until we start going down the steps and it's like he turned it into a cardio workout or something to see who was in better shape. Well, I'm in terrible shape and didn't enjoy it AT ALL! There were tons of little side benches in between 10 - 15 sets of steps and there were couples here and there just sitting there taking their time and enjoying the beautiful view, but NO not us. My husband is at the bottom saying "Hurry Up, suck it up and come on!" I tried saying in a nice sweet way, "let's take our time, come be by my side." But that didn't work. Is there any way I can "couch" him into being more romantic at special times like this?
