Do you believe in Destiny or fate?

When I was going for a walk this morning, this thought came to my mind when my colleague called me to say that his girlfriend just passed away after a major accident in the U.S and after being hospitalized for about 4 days! When I see the poor people in India, Pakisthan, Africa and other parts of the world, I wonder why each human din't work hard to fulfill the purpose of life and do something everyday out of what life teaches us. Then something told me that I was born in a good family where my parents could afford for my education. I'm able to use the computer, read & write, connect with people with good communication skills etc., and that's why I can earn much more than what the poor uneducated people could do... so is this destiny? We try so hard to get all that we need but it doesn't out 100% as per our plans.. is this also got to do with Destiny?? Do let me know your thoughts, because of late, I've realized that it is do with cultural background and purely the way we think!!! :-)

I think we make our own destiny. People from poor backgrounds can achieve great things and rich people can lead useless lives. Of course a good education does give you an advantage in life but you do need to use your knowledge to get the best out of life. We can also learn a lot from life and experience. Belief in fate is a way of avoiding taking a chance on what life has to offer. There are opportunities in everybody's life but some poeple fail to see them or don't want to risk failure so they never try.

If you believe that we make our own destiny (The way I used to strongly think earlier), then there are certain times that go out of your control. Eg: poor people born to parents who cant afford to give children everything. So then the child is not very capable of knowing Internet, knowing technology, is brought up in villages, may be illiterate, and life goes on... Is that destiny or is it he who created it?? I've seen people like this who dont have good clothing too.. I used to think it is ourselves because if we work hard we can do it.. But in India, low paid people working in constructions, teachers in villages, slums etc work really hard but are paid peanuts.. do you call this a destiny or you blame them for it still?

You make a good point. I do see what you mean. Some people are just born into a way of life where they seem to have no choice and little chance of a better life. I don't know the answer really. Life is not fair. We are not all born equal. I like to think that everyone has some potential, though it will be much harder for some. There are some great people who were born in a slum. There are people born with physical handicaps but still achieve a great deal. There are people who live simple lives but deserve great love and respect just for being good and kind.

There is fate, destiny or genetic predisposition. There is also free choice and free will. Not all things are created equal. Some are higher and some are lower. These are purely temporary situations as everything can change in a blink of an eye. Great kingdoms and dynasties of the past have fallen and lowly people have risen to the top of society. We can help each other if we so desire. Being free we may choose to help or not to help. I guess many people are too busy with their own affairs to attend to the affairs of others. Governments, if they are not so busy enrichiing themselves and protecting their interests should be at the forefront of all of these.

You said people are busy with their own affairs and have no time for other's affairs; dont you think we need to change this? And is this linked to our destiny and fate?? Just because people are not helpful or are you saying that our life is not pre-written but is being tuned by us and our people around create vague situations?? Do you call that a destiny?

If everyone chooses or have access to all the good things of the world,we would hardly have regard for anybody.Destiny or fate;no one wishes to be born into a situation of hopelessness. But it happens all because the world is not a perfect place-never a euthopia where all is perfect. However, cultural background and and one's thinking ability can go along way to raise from it's poor level.

I don't think so.I have the rights to change the fate of myself. There is no destiny if you don't believe it.So if you are a optimistic and happy person, you will keep the passion in changing the fate of life.I hope i am a strong woman,i hope i can change my fate,i don't believe any destiny.am i right?
