Our Honeybees pollinate apple blossoms in the spring. We truck the beehives to the apple orchards and set on them ground. The bees fly from one blossom to the next, and from one tree to the next, pollinating the blossoms,(so they will develop into an apple, for the apple grower) and gathering nectar and pollen for us. For this service we get $55.00/beehive. Last night I received a call telling me that a Bear had found the hives and smashed them all up and had eaten the honey. The apple grower was laughing at the idea of a Bear smashing up the hives and eating the honey.Later my son explained to the man, that the purpose of those boxes, was to collect Honey, which in turn was how we made our living. Next he told the Apple grower that as the bear had now found the beehives, we would not be coming back next year,(to feed the bear again) and he would need to find another beekeeper to pollinate his orchard. "Ooh!" he said, and he was no longer laughing!
