Do you still keep the habit of writing letters?

For me, the habit of writing letters has been abandoned for almost 4 years. The last time I sent out a letter to one of my friends is the end year of my college,I told her I was to graduate and felt at a loss of finding job in the city. Then,I never go to the post office buying stamps and envelops after work.I keep in touch of my classmates and families through short messages and e-mails.My handwriting was said very beautiful among my friends. But now I think they should have no chance to see it again. I really miss writing letters, while I am so accustomed of printing in computers and phones that I forget how to write on paper. It is something different or even uncomfortable to write on paper nowadays. I wonder if you still write your friends on paper now and then? Or if you do not like writing letters indeed from the begining?

I probably tend to write more thank you notes, encouraging notes and such than I do long letters, but yes, I still keep the habit. There's nothing more heartwarming for me than a pretty envelope and note in the mail from a friend offering encouraging words. :) There is still something to be said for the written word. :) I'm teaching my daughters to write thank you notes too. They write their own personal thank you cards to friends and family for birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, or anything else that is graciously given to them. They love it and they've blessed many with their artwork, childlike writing, and sweet words. (They are 5 and 8 years old.)

I guess thank you notes are popular in your sides. You remind me of a movie I watched yesterday night named "as good as it gets".The actress wrote a thank you note to the man who help her sick son find a excellent doctor and pay for the fees. There are several pages of the thank you notes.I wonder why she doesn't call it a "thank you letter" but "thank you notes".May be people are so used to say notes instead of letters. If I am not right for the understanding of notes and letters, please do not blame for me .Anyhow, english is not my first language, though I have spent almost 5 years to try to be proficient at it. I would say you are indeed a considerate and tactful mother by teaching your children write thank you notes when they are young. It is very important for human beings hold appreciations to others all the time. Thank you for your response and have a nice day.Do not forget to give my best wishes to your lovely children.

Awww...you're very sweet. I will tell them. :) Yes, notes and letters are different. My notes are usually a simple card or one piece of stationary that I write maybe a few short lines. Letters, in my opinion, are much more detailed and lengthy and require several pages of stationary. :) Have a great day!

Yes I do still keep the habit of writing letters. I have many friends, espically over the age of 60 who do not have a pc and since they do not live near I like to write them my news by hand written letter and send them through the post. They like to get my letters as they can re read them time and time again, which is better than a phone call as that is done and gone. I too like to recive hand written letters through the post, its nice to open a letter and have a good read while drinking a cup of tea, or taking the letter out to work with you if you haven't the time to read it htere and then. I hope that letter writing doesn't end even with the pc, you can't beat a hand written letter popping through your letter box, its better than all bills and junk mail

Amazing, you still have friends who are keeping the habit of writing letters, while I can not find one around me.We are too busy to earn ourselves and they do think it is a waste of time to sit down and write letters on paper.I am a little bit of sad. The sunshining afternoon,I clean my room and find out 20 letters from my drawer.Reading again the familliar words almost make me cry for the past times.Yes,as you said, read the words while have a drink of tea is wonderful. The feel is curious but real. Thank you for reminding me about the passed and sweetful memories of writing letters. Have a nice day and keep writing.

I do now and then if it is some one I really care about and they are out of town I will hand write a letter it show's how much you care to take the time to sit and write a letter as to typing it in five mins.. It shows your personality if you do take that time to care about a person. but if they are in the city i just call or email..

I love getting handwritten letters in the mail, but the only ones I get lately are from my grandma! Everyone else, myself included, have been bitten by the digital bug and keep in touch via e-mail now. It is definitly less personal, and I would love to get back into the habit of writing letters if I knew people would respond in kind.

Thank you for your response. yes, though,we are contacting everyday by e-mails and short messages. Those communication means are impersonal. We are not able to know exactly the writer's emotion in writing. It is woefully that we now just read the words on the screen dispassionately. If possible ,I do want to pick up the habit of writing letters again. But unfortunately,I can not find one who is willing to communicate with me through envolopes.

I still keep the habit of writing letters. Eventhough we are in the computer and texting world now. I still make the effort to write letters to my friends and family especially for special occassions. They love it. They appreciate it more and they can keep it as a remembrance from me. I love to receive hand written letters too. Because I know the one who wrote that took an effort and time to write it for me then send it to me.

Do you know one minute ago I thought my discussion on this topic can not receive any response since it has so many similar ones under there? your response makes me surprised lot.You can imagine how happy one would be if an unexpected thing happens to him eventually.Any how, thank you very much. I am so glad to find you are still the one who preserve the habit of writing letters on paper. It has incomparable significance for letter written on paper than on computers. I love to receive letters after long period waiting for.But unfortunately,I give it up so far.
