" I'm sorry for the mistake i made.Humans as we are we are prone to mistakes.." This used to be my popular excuse whenever i make mistakes way back in high school. This alibi caught my attention yesterday as I read a reply from one of my staff to a memo sent to her by the HR dept, reprimanding her to justify the errors she made on her calculations at work. The alibi "Humans as we are, we're prone to mistakes.." was how she ended up her reply. When my eyes touched down on that line, it made me smile and think on the current strength and popularity of this alibi. My thoughts pondered on it.. "humans as we are" --a common and easy alibi--which has caused plenty of wrong decisions. One of which led to huge human cost to disaster, like the war in Iraq. On this line of perception, though it is a good excuse, it is not always a good alibi. We can't always point to our being humans as the reason why we make mistakes. Maybe, there are several rooms for improvements and considerations along the way but leaning on our being humans could'nt always be rationalized with the errors we commit in life.

This alibi seems to give everyone a reason not to achieve the best that we can be. I mean, we can be better than using the phrase I am only human. With this as an alibi, people tend to just achieve their minimal potential. Which is not so so good at all.

i can't agree more.exploring ones most potential and being the best of what we can be should be the common alibi for being humans. Not the other way around. thanks tryxiness! :))
