hello there! do you know how to get away from telemarketers? I know they are just making a living, and I want to be polite, but honestly, I don't exactly like talking to them. I have other things to do. But it seems there is no warding them off, as they are really persistent. Thank God for the new No Call List Information service, my problem is solved. I can easily register my number with the no call list and unwanted calls will be blocked. Even Reverse Cell Phone Lookups are included in the service. If necessary, they also provide a reverse phone lookup service. would you try this?

Oh, come on!!! Have some fun with it... Most of the phone calls I get on home phone are telemarketers... I usually answer the phone "Dicky's abortion clinic, no fetus can beat us... Can I help you?" or "city morgue, you stab'em we slab'em. can I take your order?" I don't understand why telemarketers hang up when they hear that... One time, I saw a great thing on t.v. so I figure I'd try it out... One guy called me & tried to sell me a newspaper subscription... He threw me a simple sales pitch so I said, "no thank you... I'm not interested" He goes, "thanks for your time..." So I said, "wait, wait... That's it? What kind of effort is that? How are you gonna make a living doing a half-a** job like that? You should really put your heart into it... Why should I buy YOUR newspaper? What makes it better than all the other news paper? Come on, try it again..." About 20 seconds of pause later, he starts a long drawn out sales pitch like how better his newspaper company is & why I should take a interest in locally operated business, take a pride in supporting it... I said, "that's better... I bet you're gonna sell twice as much subscriptions then before..." He says, "So, how should I set up the billing?" So I said, "oh... I already subscribe to New York Times, thank you..." and hung up...

One of the best tricks I have found is to say *excuse me for a moment* then put the phone down on the desk. It's their call, they are paying for it, so I leave them on the line for a few moments. I then pick up the phone and if they are still there, I let them wait a while longer. I do try to be polite and pleasant but they are trained to be persistent and I feel that if they can't take no for an answer then they will just have to learn the hard way.

Yes, I think I need to reregister with them because I think they only block numbers for one year at a time. Initial telemarketing calls dont bother me too much, but when they call ove and over again when I've said no the first time that gets on my nerves.
