My fire alarm goes off when i put the batteries in

i live in uni halls and i took the batterie out of my fire alarm in my bedroom becasue im a smoker, i have a room check tomorrow and will get fined if the batteie is not in..
but it keeps goin off when i try and put it back in!?
any advice people?

The most I can tell you is leave them out and explain to them when they get there what happens when you put the batteries in the smoke detector. Maybe you have a defective one and it needs to be replaced. I'm sure they will look into seeing why this does this to you. I hope you don't worry to much and they don't get to upset for you not haveing them in. Good luck and may the problem be resolved.
