Wireless connection speed varies with a lot of things to consider. One thing of course is the distance from the router. Another thing is the number of connected computers at the same time. We cannot compare, of course, the connected speed in a cable connection...

Well, wireless is a bit slow for me too, and I have 11 MBPS, so mine should be fairly fast. I don't see why, but sometimes the internet is just slow, maybe it is not your router.

It mainly depends upon the internet connection speed that you was taken.I am not feeling any speed defference between wired and wireless because my internet connection speed is high 2mbps.It mainly depends on how many users that were connected to your wireless router. If you are using 2mbps connection you will not fell any speed diference until the users are more than 10.For the same no of users if your connection speed is 1mbps even for the wired network you will fell sloww speed. Just think about the wireless towers laid ouside our building using smart bridges. They can be capable of giving the full bandwidth asked by the user. How ever speed wireless connection is a little bit slow compared to wired .For avoiding this we have to put multiple routers in the same area.

It's depending on your own internet speed and memory space of your computer. If your internet speed is slow, there's nothing you can do about it except upgrading to a higher speed internet connection. Sometimes, when you have too many processes running on your computer, your computer will also appear to be laggy so it's advisable that you end your main processes once every few hours and restart them.
