A former loan processor, the 67-year-old mother of three grown children said she never thought she'd spend her golden years sleeping in her car in a parking lot. "This is my bed, my dogs," she said. "This is my life in this car right now." A former loan processor, the 67-year-old mother of three grown children said she never thought she'd spend her golden years sleeping in her car in a parking lot. How scary is this? I couldn't believe this! Santa Barbara has 12 parking lots available to the homeless. her is the link if you want to read http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/05/19/homeless.mom/index.html

I sometimes wonder what is wrong with us children. Our parents tried to give us the best education and when we grow up we forget about them. On the other hand there are parents who do not look after their children and these come and take revenge. This is sad though. I believe children should always try and help their parents no matter how small it is. Blessings is a good thing.

If she has three grown children you would think that one of them would open their doors to her. But hey, she only gave them life, raised them and cared for them.

I agree and what of friends, I am sure this woman had to have a few friends atleast that maybe she could maybe be a roommate with or the least her kids could do is help her get into a housing complex for the elderly and help pay for it. Or even a nursing home which is not fabulas but better then a car. She gave these kids life,love,nuturing,and this is how they repay her by letting her live in a car in a parking lot..shame what the world is coming to when kids don't even care what their parents do or live.

It can happen to any of us. I am 66 years old and have seen people my age live in the streets in amazing numbers. I am lucky to have a place to live and I count my blessings everyday.

Her children should be ashamed of themselves allowing their mother to live in such conditions. It is also very sad that there is a need for 12 parking lots for homeless people in one city.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Nancy Kapp, the New Beginnings parking lot coordinator, said the group began seeing a need for the lots in recent months as California's foreclosure crisis hit the city hard. She said a growing number of senior citizens, women and lower- and middle-class families live on the streets. ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (1) When homelessness reaches the level that we decide to open parking lots for people to sleep in, do not you think that rates as a pretty serious problem? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ("The way the economy is going, it's just amazing the people that are becoming homeless. It's hit the middle class." ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How do you qualify as middle class if you are unemployed and living in your car? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (She and others with New Beginnings walk the streets looking for people and families sleeping in their cars. The workers inform them about the parking lot program. ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I can't help but feel that I'd have emotional baggage if I were suddenly homeless I might not be able to bring myself to admit that I needed the help. It's good that these people at New Beginnings are going out and informing people that there is a safer place for them to sleep at night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Even if her children offered to help, she said, she would not accept it. "They know me well enough to know that I will get through this." ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok, that's bone-headed. If you need help, get it. The lady is staying in a parking lot, so the New Beginnings people are helping her. If she could get help from her family, she should. That would clear up space for someone else at the parking lot you needs help and can not get her family to help out. I guess this is a touchy subject. I feel terrible for people who are homeless. I guess I feel doubly terrible for people who are suddenly homeless and had no foreseeable way to prevent it. I think this is a good reason for people to live a Spartan lifestyle comfortably within their means, so when bad things happen (and they always do) that there is at least a little wiggle room. (Then again, how long could I be unemployed without losing my home?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Various included footnotes: 1) Mom forced to live in car - ( http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/05/19/homeless.mom/index.html ) A gorwing homelessness problem in California. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know sometimes I wonder what happen to us children. Our parents spent their last money on us to give us the best of education and when we grow up we forget about. On the other hand you have some parents who do not look after their children good. But in my beliefs I think we should always make our parents happy irrespective of how we were treated when we were young.
