Does anyone have a spider problem?

We live in a very hot climate and noticed that since we purchased our home about a year ago, there have been multiple black widows that have been outside near our fence, and inside our garage! Yuck! How do we deal with this? Do we just have pest control come out like we would for other bug issues?

Actually that would be the best course. You can bankrupt yourselves trying to spray everywhere. Once you get them under control then home sprays are effective, but until then you end up just chasing them around. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the advice! It would seem cheaper just going to Home Depot, but I agree with you that it would not be effective unless it totally rid of us the problem or at least got it under control. Yuck - I just dislike spiders so much! Especially extremely dangerous ones!

black widows are beyond yucky, they are poisonous, you should make sure they wont come in your house

Yes I totally agree ... we are having pest control come out anyway because we also have a few wasp nests up on our roof and have noticed our grassy yard is just filled with wasps in the hot parts of the day. We didn't notice this problem last summer. But I agree - black widows are very dangerous - especially when we have small children. Thank God we have not seen any inside and cleaned out all closets, etc., recently just to make sure nothing was hovering around. My husband also sprayed in the garage and around the house with spider spray and it killed about 3 near the fence. We also cleaned out the garage and did not see anymore besides that one that was in there. But we are going to be extra cautious and have pest control come out to make sure they get everything - don't want any egg sacks around.
