Does your cat play with things that aren't there?

I think it's hilarious to watch a cat chase or jump at invisible things. I wonder what gets into their little heads just before they do it. Anybody else have a cat who does this or am I the owner of a psychotic cat?

You are not alone! LOL My cat, Sassy, does the same thing. We call her acid kitty. She'll just bat at nothing. One time she fell off of the table trying to attack nothing. It was great!

Don't you wish you had a video camera in your hand at times like that? hahaha

I simply HAD to respond. My cat is 15 pounds. He hasn't fallen off anything while batting at invisible things, but he has rolled over and fallen off. I love how they always handle it... "What? I MEANT to do that!" LOL

Yes! Especially since she's huge! She weighs about 13 lbs. and that just makes it even funnier!

I know this may sound silly, but have you guys thought that it might be ghosts? I only ask because one of my kitties would talk to a corner in my old house and jump to try to reach the same spot in that corner. We would have thought that maybe he was just trying to catch a bug or something, but it was always the same spot. I'm a firm believer in ghosts and we knew we had one. Whether it came with house or it was attached to something else, we knew it was real. But it was definitely the cutest thing when our cat would just stop what he was doing and run to that spot and start meowing. I thought it was sweet. If you think I'm loopy I understand, it was just a thought.

Here's a laugh for you. A cat I had years ago was in our middle bedroom, near the wall separating it from another bedroom. I went into the other bedroom and scratched on the wall near the corner where the two rooms joined. The cat went nuts, thinking there was a mouse or something in the wall. For 3 entire days, if he wasn't sleeping or eating, he was staring at that corner of the wall, waiting to hear that "mouse" again. Apparently, all it takes is one tiny little sound to occupy a cat's mind for a long time.

Sorry, I just noticed someone else had the same thought I did. :)

My cats do this but I've found they're actually chasing bugs. At least mine are. They'll chase flies and moths like it's nothing. It confused me at first when my cat first started doing it because I couldn't figure out what she was chasing. However when I looked closer I started noticing flying bugs.

Sometimes it's just a dust particle. I love the way cats can entertain themselves so well.

Buffy - My 23 lb cat
My cat loves to play with his invisible friend that seems to hang out on the wall. He has done this for several years. I swear there is nothing there, but he gets into his own little world sometimes and just has a ball.

I had a cat years ago who did that same thing. His friend seemed to be very high up on the wall because the cat would try to jump higher and higher each time. (At least it seemed that way.) I'd love to know what's going on in their head.

sometimes i tease my cat, and he gets back at me and starts with me, and starts teasing me to play with him. maybe your cat is seeing a ghost animal? i dont know. i was watching this psychic on tv and he said that cats can see other ghosts and ghost cats. maybe ur cat is playing with a ghost cat that once lived in your place. my cat's favorite toy is the scratch boards and scratch post.

maybe take your cat to a cat psychic to see what they say about the ghost or gost animal, if there really are any...and dogs dont like cats...the dogs are probably ticked off that there is stinky cat smell on their toys. i bought my late a lucy rag doll from a garage sale to play with so she wouldnt chew on my old holly hobbie rag doll i put for decoration, and my late cat hated the stinky garage sale doll. she sniffed it once and turned up its nose on it..animals depend on their senses and they are very sensitive. we cant fool them...they arent stupid...

Could be a ghost cat. Only the cat would know for sure! My cat's favorite toys are my dogs' toys. They get so upset when the cat starts playing with one of them, even if they had no intention of playing with it.

I have had them - and I think that perhaps they see things that we don't see.

Most cats pounce at invisible things! I call it "chasing the greeblies", or if she's running around the house and stopping only to pounce on things, then she just "has the crazies". It's a common thing, and it's great TV!
