addicting american idol and other shows

i was at the office today and everyone was glued to the tv instead of to the office chair because the winner was being announced. it reminded of the days when id be glued to my computer at home just waiting for my shows to download. this led me to wonder why we human beings get drawn into tv shows even though we know they aren't real anyway. i guess idol is as real as it gets, but still, im not a big fan so i don't know what the addicting factor is. i really love greys anatomy and gossip girl though so tell me--- WHAT SHOWS ARE U ADDICTED TO?
