my husband really wants to play in the computer, even the whole day if he is day off, one day the power supply of the computer breakdown, so we need to buy another power supply, he upgrade the 512 mb to 1 gig memory, change the video card, it is ok but the worse thing happen is all the files i made for 2 years, all the videos, pictures i save have gone, and he don't make any back up. and i feel so irritating. theres nothing i can do but to cry. i cannot retrieve any of it. i cant say i hate him for doing that coz i still love him, but i cant help this feeling inside me. i dont want to talk to him. now the files in my computer is all computer games...

i think i cant recover all of my data at all, i think i has been full formatted by the one who repair it. i ask him if he has been informed before formatting the computer of what will happen on the files, he answer me that he said, just do the better for the computer.. waaah huhuhu! maybe the one who repair don't also care about the file stored on it of course they are not the one who made it. and my husband to, he dont care about my files!!all he cares is the games! but my files is important for me.

you can recover it after full format but try to recover it as soon as possible.

Why on earth would he reformat if it was only a power supply swap and a hardware upgrade??? There are still commercial tools out there that can recover data from a reformatted disc. I'm not sure how much it would cost you, but you can always ask your local repair shops if they can recover data from reformatted discs. It would be cheaper than buying the tools yourself and trying to learn how to use them. Good luck.

get the hard disk scanned with a recovery software. if the data is very important, go for a professional paid recovery service. or else just try any free recovery software. or just get those games downloaded if available.

The recovery chances depends on the format method. like if quick format is performed. recovery chances are good.

Free (legal) recovery software won't recover data that's been overwritten by a disc reformat. It'd be better to pay someone to do it. But that could mess up the existing formatting.

i'm so sorry to hear that... i know how irritating it is to lose the files that you make with all the hard work just like that... especially if those videos and pictures have sentimental value to you... i think your hubby is really selfish in doing that... i will be mad at him as well if it happens to me and i wouldn't want to talk to him for some times as well... i don't understand... you are saying that it is your computer... but why you let him do everything that he wants to it??? just wondering... take care and have a nice day...

I am so sorry! I have had this happen time and time again with our computer going into the repair shop. Now I do the computer repairs myself. There is no reason that they would have had to format that hard drive to replace a power supply! That simply powers the computer, and swapping it out doesn't require reinstalling an OS! I would get the recovery software ASAP and get those files back.

Use proper grammar and punctuation... and sorry for the loss, but a video card replacement wouldn't cause data loss.

If the files were deleted from within windows they generaly goto the recycle bin. Have you checked there? If not I would do that and some of those files that were deleted might be recovered.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience. I don't mind about the songs but the pictures that I have taken especially when I went to watch Disney on Ice in Bangkok. I was speechless, and like the clock had stopped ticking. There was no way I could retrieve those files and for a couple of months I was always sulking over it. Two years had passed aftet that and now I have come to fully accept it.

wow! I understand how you feel nice, with all the time and effort you have invested in making all those files. ANyway, there is nothing you can do now plus I know he didn't mean it, at least he learn from that experience you know! You make him learn something from that mistake!LOL, he will be more careful next time! Cheers!

I am so sorry to hear that. I know how important those files mean to you. I don't know whether your computer has done anything else after that. I suggest you to try a software call Easy Recovery and perhaps you can still recover your files. This is a very useful software and it did save my important big files in the past. Good luck! I love China

Smack his hand, and send him out to go buy his own doggone computer. Period! I have a laptop, and I very seldom leave it at home. I have too much on here to lose. I am afraid if someone does something to it, and destroys all my important things I will go CRAZY on them. So it is best not to leave it where it can possibly happen.

Bless your heart. Any time I take my computer in for problems, I make sure the repair dude understands that the first thing I want him to do is to back up everything. (I also keep a copy at my house.)

hi how are you. dont worry your data is not lost, because you supply faulty only. data is lost in the case of hard disk demage. and some Company recovered data if hard disk is damage. some software is available on internet for data recovery. you search and download software and solve your problem.

If you still have the same hdd then you can try some software for the backup of atleast some of the files, if not all. But if he has done a full format instead of the quick one then I am sorry but you cannot get those files back.

That is why it is important to keep separate back-ups on CDs or DVDs.
