"Do You Have The Nerve To Smile?"

I just read a most touching story about an eleven year old girl who is not able to smile. It is caused by a condition that she was born with. She is paralized on one side of her face. She says that the kids can be "harsh," but she is not going to let that stop her from being a success. She plans to have surgery one day. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the prettiest smile of them all?" she asked. "Well maybe I don't have the muscle or nerves to smile, but I have kindness and respect, and I am going to live a successful life," she said to a smattering of teary-eyed spectators. "And people won't like me because of my smile, they'll like me because of me." Brought tears to my ears when I read that!!

It is sort of bitter sweet to me. Although, she knows she has this condition and it is sad, she's not going to let it stop her from being who she wants to be. I got the impression that her adoptive mother is a powerhouse of inspiration for her.
