http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080522/wl_uk_afp/britainarchaeologyhistoryheritagestonehenge That's the link to yahoo's story. Some guys go in and try chipping stone off of one of the world's most treasured monuments. No one is even positive how these were built, where they came from, and what their purpose is. And yet we have some people aiding in their destruction. If you know anything about stone and erosion, you know I'm right. Why?

I had not seen this news. Thank you for posting the link. I find it quite shocking that anyone would do this. I just wish they had been caught by the security guards and I hope the police will find them. It is something of a miracle that these stones have stood for more than 4000 years and survived. There are delicate scientific investigations taking place, but they will be done by professionals who will do the least harm. I was lucky enough to enter the circle when I was a child, it was free access then. Now visitors have to view the stones from outside a barrier and are not allowed to enter into the sacred place.

No problem, I think people should know. It had to be incredible being inside of that circle....what was it like? What did you feel? See? Hear?

As a child I think I found it mysterious and I have been back since as an adult. Even viewed from a distance it is still awe inspiring. It is more amazing when you understand that the huge stone circle is just the central part of a bigger complex of circles, mounds and ditches across the surrounding plain. The meaning of these has been lost in time.
