I know there are many bird watchers in mylot. I have responded to many discussions myself since spring has started. In fact we are watching a nest of house wrens that has taken up residence in a corner of our car port. They are so unperturbed by our presence, I guess that is why they are called house wrens. I was sent this amazing video of humming birds in my email, and I was just going to pass it around to my email list, there are many friends here that I do not have email addresses for, so I thought what better way to share this piece of art than here in mylot. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I have not yet set out my hummingbird feeders but this sure motivates me to do so this weekend. What birds are you watching? Do you enjoy sitting at your window with coffee in hand watching them play? Or how is it you enjoy them?

I live in an apartment now so I don't really have a place to put a feeder anymore. In my house though, we had a hummingbird feeder and I would sit with my daughter and watch them buzz around. It was relaxing. I guess it always is watching nature in action.

Funny you ask... I was out on the patio sunning myself a couple of mornings ago when I got an opportunity to do some bird watching. I have cats so birds do not usually come up close to my patio, but this particular morning all of a sudden a bird landed on the table over by the the bamboo patch right beside me and stood there looking around for a minute to make sure she was safe. There was a nylon cord tied to a tree which had come unraveled and the 3 strands were dangling down. After the bird had ascertained is safety, it reached down with it's beak and picked up a strand of the rope, then seeing there were still strands dangling, she grabbed the other ones in her beak too, and then went to fly off. She didn't get too far since the strands were attached to the tree. She stood there and looked around again sort of perplexed, then picked up the strands again and went to fly off but was yanked to a halt. She bobbed her head this way and that, and tried again, and again. It was just hilarious. She finally realized she wasn't taking those strands anywhere and flew off without them. I went over and cut them off and laid them on the table for her but I haven't checked to see if she ever came back and got them. Cute video!

Wow amazing. I felt bad for the bird trying to gather the strings... I wonder if she ever got them. Thanks for those stories... Fantastic.

I went out the next day or something and looked to see if the strings were there and every one of them was gone! I don't know for a fact that the little birdy who wanted them so badly is the one that got them, but I choose to believe that it was! How can such a simple, insignificant act like cutting some strings for a bird to use in it's nest bring such joy? But it did! I have been meaning to come back and tell you this for quite a while now and kept forgetting.

I forgot the other bird from yesterday. I was out in the garden turning my compost piles when a bird came swooping out of the apple tree and quickly grabbed a piece of plastic from right near me without even landing and soared immediately up into the sky with her prize. She was in such a hurry she dropped the plastic. I watched it fluttering down out of the sky and she came swooping down and grabbed it right out of the air. It was so graceful and quick.

Hello Angel!:-) It is an awesome video depicting their life from birth to maiden flight. I especially looked curiously as the second one was looking around like it is weighing the possibility and risk involved with his maiden flight, when the first one already flew. I don't get to see many birds here, mostly because it's almost always raining but I 'listen' to them more often. Just in two hours, the morning chirping will be 'ON' here and it's refreshing to listen to them. In my earlier life, I have had pet birds. A pair of Australian parrots, who later gave birth to few others. They were beautiful; small, multi-color and full of life and activity. One pair was yellow and other was multicolored. My neighbors had a local green parrot with red beak, who could talk like humans and repeated after us. It was fun talking to him. They also had ducks. Then we had hens and a pair of white pigeons. They live gracefully. I later insisted on freeing them all. And, as soon as the third lot of younger ones were able to fly, we set them free.

Hello Kamran:))) I also, liked the way the second one hovered there weighing his options. I raised cockteils for a couple of years, oh so much work is the caged bird. It was rather fun in the beginning not to mention what a learning experience. Then the more nesting pairs I acquired the more work all those little chicks were, it got exhaustive..... Now I prefer my birds free and singing outside my windows :))))

The Australian parrots that we had were kept in a big wooden cage with a number of nests places at different locations and with all those swings, bars etc. Once we joined the two breeds in this cage, the yellow ones and the colorful pair. I think they had some fun together as the next breed was mixed in color of two pairs. But, I don't know. It's my observation and we never had little ones with that combination of colors. Our pigeons were almost always free, roaming about in the courtyard. We only used to send them to cage in fear that a cat may have her meal out of them of they are kept outside. And later, when we released them by taking them far from home and releasing them, they somehow found their way back and returned.

I had a hummingbird pause right outside my window here this morning as I was sitting at the computer. This one was mostly gray although we do have some ones with a little more color. I really enjoy watching them. I don't have a hummingbird feeder, I guess because I can't make the commitment to change it as often as it needs changing. When the temperatures get really hot here, we are supposed to change the nectar every couple days.

My Son Whittby helps me keep the feeders clean, and fresh. They are as fascinating to watch as an aquarium I believe.

We have some lovely birds around here as well, the pretties ones I think are the Cardinal's. We have a pair that have lived close by for several years now. They are so pretty. We also get Blue Jay's, Sparrows, a lots of Robbins. We use to have a bunch of pigeons, but they seemd to have moved on. I do not like how messy they are ewww...

Hi there Deea, we don't get to many pigeons in the neighborhood, but we do mourning doves, I simply adore listening to them. Their cry is soulful.

We have crows by the ton and mockingbirds and little titmice plus my favoritte a ruby throated emerald humming bird. I love to watch the hummingbird as she hovers and sips nectar from the hawthorne blooms. her wings go so fast you cannot see them. the crows are interesting too to watch.

I know this is a bit late in coming Wee, but I am grand thank you for asking. The emotional upheavals as of late have left and everyone is back to the daily grind. I am so glad you enjoyed the clip.

I like to watch them as well. It's very relaxing and leaves us with a peaceful feeling that is at the same time amusing. I also like to wake up to the sound of the birds by my window. I hate alarm clocks or anything that will wake me up with a very loud sound, but the birds is a different story, it never gives me a headache:):):):)

I keep saying that I am going to put out hummingbird feeders but just keep dragging my feet. Seeing those wonderful pics, makes me think that I may just not drag my feet any longer.
