When my husband and I had a honeymoon. One day we visited his friend as we passed there. They have met each other for several years and we have never seen his wife before. His wife was so nice to us. She even peeled the pears for us and I felt so moved to it. The custom is different here. When my friends visit me, usually I just tell them to eat what they like. As to peeling the fruit? That seems not so possible for me as I am a lazy person.

Hello youless,
I have experienced that a lot in my Country! I guess that is part of our tradition being very hospitable to any of our guests!Sometimes, I am shy like i am treated like they are my slaves!hahahah..joke! but, in return, when my friends and relatives also will visit us, we do the same, treat them as if they are the queen!LOL!

That is actually the custom here in my country... we treat visitors like royalty... especially those who have been to the home for the first time... or those who we haven't seen for a long time... but for those friend who are frequent visitor... we treat them as part of the household so they can just do whatever they want...

You are so lucky that your husband has such a good friend( like me.
.) and as you said the the customs and practices vary, from region to region.
Even in India, we have such a good hospitality, and treat the guest as god. There is a saying your Mother is God, Your Father is God,
Your friend is God
Your Relatives/guest are God( Matha, pitha, Bandhu, Saka, sab he..ram..a..ram)
But however, i must point out that hospitality has taken a back seat nowadays than it was earlier, in all countries.

Hi youless! I have a lot of experiences of hospitality with so many people here especially those who live in the provinces. City folks are hospitable but not to the point of peeling the fruit. However, in provinces we enjoy such hospitable treatment. They do peel the fruits that they are going to serve us. Such a beautiful feeling when it is done to you and also a humbling experience when people are so kind and hospitable. It makes you look inside of what have I done to deserve such kindness.
Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!
