Most visitors to Bali come away with warm memories of paradise, and also the question: “Why are there so many dogs?”, for the island is literally crawling with them. According to a recent estimate there are over 600,000 vagrant dogs in Bali - many of them diseased, mangy and hungry. This documentary is an in-depth, sometimes shocking, often tongue-in-cheek look at this island’s population of ‘man’s best friend’, and the role these dogs play in the culture’s subconscious.

What a mess? That is a lot of dogs, and one big problem with passing on diseases? I love dogs I wouldnt be without mine, but if they were sick I would take them to a vet! Why is nothing being done, They need to spay and nuture the healthy dogs and put the diseased dog out of there missery poor things!! The owners that dump there dogs should be put in Prison as they are helping to spread diseases to the people of Bali? Some one needs to be responsible for this problem!!!

There is a foundation called: Yudisthira, that capture wild dogs to examine and cure disease at those dogs. The Bali street dog is a wild animal that lives it’s entire life with no physical human contact. The dog becomes extremely distressed and will self-harm if placed in a cage or even a veterinary clinic situation. This foundation cage sick dogs, cure and returns the dog to the street after surgery, as soon as it is physically safe to do so.

Yes, it is dangerous in some ways. The Balinese been living with those 'loose dogs' for centuries. They sees dogs there as common as cows in india. They share lives because there was a legend of "Yudistira" that those dogs are have the right to life, they was human before they reincarnation to become a dog because their sin. I am not hinduis but they tell me this story when i ask, why there is so many dogs in here? who are they belongs to? and my balinese friends said "Looks like, they don't belong to any one because they don't have their neckless." And i'm as surprise as anyone hear at the first time. There as common too people, urban hospital, and International hospital, are ready dealing with disease from dogs.

I also suprised that no owner dogs at Bali had that many. Maybe people who had dogs as pet in bali should just had a little operation on their dog so the female can have puppies. Government should make an animal shelter for dogs there. But maybe this only an empty hope. Our goverment had trouble to take care of the people here, i do not think they will even care to take care about the dogs and help Bali tourism.

Believe me, they try to dealing with these dogs (but may be it's not enough) Some times i see ambulance for dogs you may be only see this in Bali. This ambulance full of dogs that need to be taking care of. They will be loose when their condition is healthy. Veterinarian balinese and western, colaborrating dealing dogs disease.
Bali is not a paradise for human, but dogs too. They even don't have to pay their medication! LOL
