My husband decided to by a scooter to drive back and forth to work yesterday. He has to drive about 60 miles a day. The scooter will get about 90 miles to a gallon. It should help to cut out our gas useage. I hope the weather cooperates so that he gets good use out of it. I also hope it holds up well.

It does kind of scare me, but we have to do something.

I agree. The gas prices aren't getting any better. Everything is costing more. This seems like the only way to save the amount that you will. Plus it is better for the environment too. I am actually making that move to a scooter myself. I should be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

Be sure he wears a helmet!!!!!!
I'm glad you bought it now because prices of those scooters and motorcycles are already rising since people are looking to them to save gas. The good thing is that as the roads fill with more cycles and less cars, it will be safer for the two-wheelers!
I've seen cyclists bundled up against the weather when it's cold, I feel sorry for them! On the other hand, if you start putting away $5-10 a week in anticipation of the winter gas prices for the car, it won't hurt so much when it's time to put away the scooter.

He will, I plan on putting some of the money we would spend on gas back. We found a last year model for $900. I hope we get some good use out of it.

Oh I am so jealous. I want a gas scooter so bad. I have an electric scooter not fast enough to go on major roads but since I work 2 mins. from my house and Kmart is the same distance it does help out some.

Yah, hubby rides his Harley to work as much as he can.. It makes a lot of sense.. I may have to take up bycicle riding if this keeps up! And a little wagon to bring home our groceries.. then I can be the ridiculed bike lady..

Now that's definitely a pro-active solution to the problem! I have a hunch that more and more we'll see people going to work on scooters, cycles, and bicycles. 60 miles a day!! What a guy! I hope he has good weather too :-) I wish him good luck, and safe roads.

As long as the weather cooperates, it will go 55 miles an hour. They make one that goes 70 but we did not get that one, as it was $1000 more.

Here it is quite a few yrs. later and I hope the scooter is still holding up, but I personally know a lot of people who have done things like this, and are still using them all the time. With the high prices of gas, plus traveling that far being able to save wear and tear on a car has got to be a Good thing for sure.
The thing I would worry about, is some of the Crazy drivers out there who tend to like to follow too close. With so many fatal accidents out there all the time, it really makes you wonder.

It ran for about 2 years, with alot of repairs. Sitting in the garage now, needs the scrap yard.

How green and budget conscious of you! Were you trying to go green or was it just a budget thing, that had a nice green side effect?
I'm also trying to be more Green and budget conscious in transit, by riding the regular bus to things, rather than the van service which I used to take all the time. I hope it works out. Is he used to driving a scooter, because I would imagine that it takes some practice? Let us know the results!

It was a budget thing, but it has been quite a mess also. It has been in the shop once, and needs to go back.

*tips my hat off to your hubby* Good commuting to you both!
I've been seeing scooters becoming alot more popular lately, and I'm hoping that they end up mostly replacing cars for most people's financial sakes since they're better on gas. It'd make the roads alot safer, for sure.

That's a phenomenal savings!
We followed suit awhile back when
our big truck messed up.
We were going to get a mid-size
used Tempo but then decided
on the compact smaller car from
Taurus.
Now we barely use $10 weekly on gas.
A motor scooter is such a smart investment.
Please remind him to be safe, always.
Best of luck.

It has already had to be fixed 2 times. I am guessing that it won't last a long time. I was hoping for better.
