How to Remove the Avatar ???

Could somebody tell me how to remove my avatar?? I have gone to "edit your prefernces" and deleted the current avatar. So now my facebook has the greenman, but when i post a discussion or reply, i see the pic that i had uploaded. How can i remove this pic from the posts ????
