Can you get to the minus world in Super Mario Bros.?

I've never been able to do that. I know how it's supposed to be done. You stand on the pipe to exit in world 1-2 and break a couple of bricks overhead, but I just can't do it! Anyone here been able to reach it?

i dont know about the minus world but i did get to slide through walls in 1-2. at the end of the level stand on the pip to get to 1-3 and jump towards the wall then while in the air count thrre blocks up and as you touch taht block press left...it took me a couple trys but in the end i got it...it doesnt doo much but it helps if you go to far..and cant get to the elevators
