do you prefer cupcakes or a traditional cake on a birthday? I have always loved baking, but I have found that it is much easier to clean up after baking cupcakes. And since I do not have a cake stand it is much easier for storage in my cupcake holder. ANother plus, clean up is simple. Oh and you don't have to butter and flour a pan before you pour the batter in....okay now I realize that I have become a lazy baker....but they still are sooo good. So which do you find is best? And does anyone really complain if you make the cupcakes instead?

Traditionally we just do cakes for birthdays. However, for my father's 60th birthday we did a cupcake cake :D It was really fun. We took and baked 50 cupcakes and "glued" (with frosting) them to cardboard in the shape of a coffin and then frosted them. It turned out really neat! The best part about it is that we didn't have to supply plates or forks, just the cake and the napkins. It was so much fun as I had never seen a cake done like this before but it proved to be very resourceful as well. Anyway, sorry to get a little off subject there. However, we do typically let the kids pick out their favorite kind of cake and I will do my best to bake them exactly what they want on their birthday just for them :D

I love cakes too, but I have seen the creative ways people use cupcakes...I saw one that was the shape of a teddy bear and they used the icing in different colors to emphasize the bear....it was sooo cute.... A coffin....that is funny....LOL

Cupcakes are great for kids. They can do thier own decorating and there's no mess to clean up. iI thing grown folks prefer cakes though.

cakes are more eye catching on birthday parties because of their designs and it's big enough to attract children with their beautiful designs. but cupcakes are more convenient to use and i think it's cute enough and easy to bake. happy posting!! :)

i prefer traditional birthday cakes. i am talking as a consumer not as a cook in this situation. i like the taste of birthday cakes than cup cakes. My mom prepares both birthday cakes and cupcakes but i have always preferred the birthday cakes.

I used to bake cupcakes for the kids on their birthdays when they were little to take to school. Now we are not allowed to do that any longer and its sad as I would love to do the same for my grand daughter who is starting kindergarten this fall. I enjoyed doing so. For Birthdays I think its nice if you are having a big children's party. but for Adults I still prefer the sheet cake.

Cake has such a way with a crowd and there is so much you can do with it! Have you seen those pictures they put on cakes or even building them into things? For me, I would have to say cupcakes, for a personal level. I teach school and there is somemthing about a child handing out cupcakes that I think is rather cool. The items are small. ind wrapped and ready to go. Try that with a cake and you will need something to eat it with...and atleast a napkin to put it on! You like baking..I like eating! Sounds great to me!

Depends on the crowd - if kids, then I'd go along with the cupcakes - and let them deocrate them! Easier than dealing with forks and plates, let them eat cake outside! And to decorate..what a fun acitivity for them to do and have fun at the party. For adults, I'd say either one..depends on the mood of the party. Even letting them decorate - why not have fun at the party! And again, no forks to wash!

I love cupcakes. In fact, as a part time business, I decorate cakes. I do both layered cakes and cupcakes, even though decorating a cake is so much easier(and cheaper because it is 1 as opposed to 16), a ton of people still choose the cupcake option because they can get different flavors of cake and icing. Personally, I absolutely love cupcakes. It makes you feel like you are not eating so much, even if you have two. And, you are right, they are so much easier to make and clean up after.

I don't like cake that much, so I don't have that for my birthdays. I have like a birthday pie, brownie or cookie. My brother always has cheesecake instead of real cake ha. If I do eat or make cake, I prefer cupcakes. They are easier to clean up and eating them is easier. No plates or forks required. When I make cake I don't butter and flour the pan. I guess I'm lazy even when making cake. I do prefer to bake cake/cupcakes, over eating them. I'm just not a cake person I guess.

I like the idea of cupcakes for birthdays. When you work in an office sometimes it's expected that you treat your co-workers with something on your birthday. Some go all out and order pastries from the most expensive bakery. Others bring something from home. People do like pound cake on those occassions a lot. When you bring cupcakes instead you don't have the extra mess of needing a napkin or a paper plate. And everybody gets the same amount too so there's no fighting over who got the thickest slice. Of course nobody ever complains. They're way too busy noshing their cupcakes! By the way they wouldn't dare. After all, if they did I may just decide not to bring in something when it's my birthday next year.
