I live in Northern Colorado. We just had two days of nasty tornadoes. The town next to us, Windsor, was flattened. I just want to say how amazing people in northern Colorado are. Yesterday, the Red Cross had to say, no more volunteers today! I work at an animal shelter, we are holding the donations for lack of space. Our communities have all banded together and are taking care of each other. Somebody mentioned that FEMA was coming, but I don't really think we need them. There is a construction company passing out free plywood to homeowners to board up windows. Everybody had a place to stay. It is just amazing!
How do you think your community would stack up?

We had a small tornado hit our region in March. I had plenty of people offer to help, for a price. We had no offers just for help. Most people were intersted in gawking or getting work. I don't know what would have happened if the devastation has been worse.

That really is amazing! Some people in my community are like that, but most aren't. The churches and maybe the local Home Depot would do the "big" stuff, and a lot of people would help out or donate materials/clothes/food. My family is one of the ones that would help. Our neighbor's house burned to the ground a couple of years ago, and I helped round stuff up for her and her family. The downside: She never came back to get it. I called in favor after favor to help her, and she never even said "Thanks, but no thanks". I'd do it again, though, I hate to see people in trouble.
