Would you go on Oprah.....

or Dr. Phil or any other television show to publicly lose weight? Would you be willing to participate in any show that resolved to help you lose pounds and inches with personal trainers, beauty consultants, dieticians and the like, knowing that you would have to show before and after shots of your body? Would you withstand the public humiliation if you weren't able to stick to the diet regimen that they set for you? Would it be worth the end result, even if it meant showing all your cellulite and body fat prior to starting on any program to an entire viewing audience?

NO. But I only say that because I am thin, svelte and perfectly proportioned. Why don't they have tv shows for THAT! LOL

I don't think I can do that. I'll let the opportunity pass since I will just regret showing my body. These shows have to give the person who agrees to have a make over a bit of respect. Just because they are helping him/her does not give them the right to ask the person disrobe and be taped or photographed for the public. The audience can see the person is overweight even with the wardrobe on. And perhaps, they can take measurements and that is safer to record. I understand they want to be realistic and truthful to the audience but if that would compromise the person's sensibilities or even if he/she is willing still something is not right. They have to think of another way.

I would hope that if they wanted to show my fat and cellulite, they would let me wear a bathing suit! I know it reveals just as much as undies, but it seems less indecent and inappropriate.

Every show I have seen with this kind of theme have all gone about it the same way. They show the women's fat and cellulite, but they don't show it afterwards. They just show them in nice clothing.

No... I would not go on any TV show. First because I value my privacy. Second... because I have pride. A little word which seem to be on the road to extinction. My generation and generations before mine had a lot of pride. Particulary in Europe where I came from. For someone like me... it is a real culture shock to see the lack of pride in the American and Australian culture. Pride has its disavantages... as it holds you back and makes you a bit of an introvert. But on the other hand... if you have no pride... nobody will respect you or take you seriously. Pride is a form of self respect. If you don't respect yourself... how can you expect anyone else to respect you? From the little I have seen of those people going on that sort of shows... those people don't have a brain to start with... and without a brain... humiliation don't hurt very much. They are more likely to tell the audience to "get F.." than to cry. Because that the sort of people they are.

I have pride too, but I can admit that I need help to lose weight and stick to a diet and exercise plan. I have nobody that lives near me to be a diet and exercise buddy. I feel that it would help to have to do it or else. I just have no willpower to stick to a diet on my own. I think the scrutiny of Oprah might help that. She is a very intimidating woman!

Fair enough... Oprah might intimidate you in sticking with the diet. But what happen when the show is over? Will you have the willpower to stick with the diet? Because if you don't... you will put all that weight back on as fast as you did lose it with Oprah.

I know that Oprah tends to do "where are they now" type updates, so I might be able to stick with it thinking about "someday" going back on for a how are they doing episode. I also believe that I just can't get myself started and that if I lost the weight, I would be able to keep most of it off myself. Plus, I only need to lose 20 lbs.

I would definitely love to get help and advice from the experts. However, I do not think I would do that with the whole world watching. I value my privacy and I do not think I would love being publicly humiliated. I do not have the guts to be publicly exposed in that manner.

My fear would be that I didn't lose the weight they expected and then had to publicly admit my failure.

no way would i do this. there is no reason to humiliate people. it is bad enough they need to lose weight as do i but why do they have to shame themselves in the process? totally not necessary. i would love it otherwise as i need help but would not want to be away from my son.

The people who volunteer for these shows obviously don't mind being humiliated or don't feel that they are being humiliated. Their sense of purpose is more important to them.

I would certainly consider it. If I were paid for doing so that is. Or if what they were offering in the form of personal trainers and other stuff was way beyond my means and there was no other way I could get it. There are a lot of those types of shows around these days. I'm sorry to say that they don't appeal to me and I never watch them. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't do it if they asked me to!

I watch them when they come on and I'm too lazy to get up and change the channel, but I certainly don't go looking for them.

i am not sure. I think if i was really overweight and needed to lose it for my health I would go. I could stand to drop a few pounds now, but i am not now nor do i think i would be humiliated if i showed my body now. I got me a tummy and of course there is cellulite, but i love my body.

I definitely could stand to lose a few pounds, but not enough to ever consider going on public television to seek that kind of help. Nothing trips to the gym and a better diet wouldn't fix.

If someone else was paying for me to lose weight with personal trainers, diet plan, beauty consultants and the lot, of course I would do it. I would make sure I worked my butt off too and if the whole world saw me, then fine - wait till they seem me AFTER the weight is off - one hot smoking mama I HOPE hahahahaha!

i would love the expert help and advice that is given on those type of shows but I am afraid that I wouldn't go on tv to get it! Let someone who feels more comfortable in the spotlight and in front of cameras do that! xxx

I agree, the benefits that they are afforded would be nice, but to be put in the public spotlight like that is not something I would be willing to do.

I do not think that I would ever consider something like this. It would definitely be very humiliating. I mean, the world will be watching and you just do not know what audiences are saying about you. If I were to do anything like this, I would rather do it in private.

Nope I could never do it. I am trying to love myself just as I am now. Why go to such extremes, just for the search of perfection. Well I am not perfect and nor do I wish to be perfect. I have spent to many years all worried about such things, when I was a teen I was about as close to anerexia as you can get. I never ate and was very thin. So now at this stage in life, I just want to feel comfy in my own skin. What others think and feel does not matter so much any more.

kbourgerie great discussion I had to think on this. no I would love all that help to lose weight but no not the publicity . that would just undo me completely. I am a private sort of person not given to showing myself off at all. I would probably be able to stick to thediet as I have to do some sort of thing like that all the time for my diabetes. But to be a public spectacle no matter how great the progress no I do not think I could make that as its just not me. I know lots of people would love all that hoopla but it would make me very nervous.

Several people have mentioned "The Biggest Loser". I don't think I've ever seen it. Perhaps they would help with the mood swings if you were ever accepted.

I think I would do anything to lose weight. I am embarrassed now to look how I do. I think it would be wonderful to have all that free help to do it right. I think with that kind of incentive, I could maintain any weight loss and lifestyle change that they helped me make. I started a discussion a long time ago about free complete makeovers, like that show The Swan, and would you let them do all that stuff to you as long as it was free. I think I would. I would love to look and feel better about myself.

No way. I can't stand those types of shows anyway, but why on earth expose yourself to all that ritual humiliation just for 15 minutes worth of fame. I suspect that people do it for the exposure and not for the weight loss. Mind you, if you go on I shall definitely watch. LOL. Not that you need to. (Nearly embarrassed my self there).

hello my mylot friend! No I wouldnt be willing to. I dont want to make my problems public for millions to see.If I felt like I wanted to fix something about myself I would, go to counseling if it was for a realationship, and if it was for loosing weight I would join the gym get a trainer and get on a diet. Plus I dont like speaking in front of a large amount of people.

I actually tried out to be on The Biggest Loser. I don't think i could go on Dr. Phil or Oprah because that seems it would be focusing me on but with a group of others around with the same goal of losing weight and being healthy i could do it. Having the thought of public humiliation if i were able to stick to it would only make me try harder to stick the regiment. As for if it would be worth, i sure hope it would be if i got my desired results. My thing is many people see me every day and know that i have body fat and cellulite, Whats the difference if a few thousand more strangers know it as well? The thing that needs to be remembered is that the viewing audience are strangers we will more than likely never meet so why would there opinion of me effect my desired goal?
