I love finding bargins at second hand stores. I am always amazed at what I can find. I have saved so much money finding things I would have found at a department store for so much less. I really should go there before I go shopping any place else but I don't always take the time to do it. The week before my daughter needed cleats for ball and I got them at the department store and sure enough when I was at the thrift store yesterday they had some. I could have saved myself $15 had I looked their first instead of going the easy route. I will just have to keep working on going their first. What about you do you shop in second hand stores?

Hi There, I guess it really depends upon what I am going to buy. If I am looking for books or items like that I have no problem at all going to second hand stores. However, if I am buying big ticket items like a television or computer I tend to rely on the first hand shops for those. I like having warranties just in case. Also, I always want to make sure it is standardized and not undergone previous problems. cheers,

I love second hand stores and rummage sales. I am also fortunate to have a network of friends who pass around large garbage bags full of used clothing to pick through and share and pass on to the next friend. When we all find what we want we pass it to the women's center which provides needy people with help in that way among others. If they don't go to the women's center or are beyond wearing again, they go into a collection box which is sent to the local plant for recycling fibers. They produce industrial use rags, they break down and recycle other materials and shoes, even sewing scraps and just about anything else fabric related. If the recycling plant finds good clothing in their collection they pass it on to a used clothing place or charity like a men's or women's shelter.

I just like to buy books from second hand stores. Although there are many cheaper things at second hand stores, some of them are used for many times. But books are not out of date, especially some novels.

I used to go all the time but have not in the last few years. The last couple times I did go I could not find anything I was looking for. I need to check it out again and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion.

hi!! me too, i love to shop at second hand stores because it saves me more money and i can also find good stuffs at a very low price there. i remember when i am still working abroad (Japan to be exact), there are so many second hand stores and thrift shop there. me and my friends really enjoy going there every Sundays because that is our only holiday. we shop for stuffs like home decor, jackets, sweatshirts, shoes, pants and blouses. it is of quality too. now that i got home here in the Philippines, i miss second hand shops there and our shopping spree. :)

I prefer them. I have a large family, three of my kids are still growing. Finding deals at the second hand stores is what has kept my kids in decent clothing. Its also allowed me to find a lot of the extras that I love and find convenient, but don't feel comfortable with spending retail for. I got a Cuisinart food processor for $4.99, and a Bosch meat slice for $2.99. Both in excellent looking and working condition, and for way less than what they would have cost me had I purchased them in a department store. And between the house, the cars and the kids, I couldn't have afforded retail. People who brag about the high dollar they've spent on items just astound me, I prefer to find the big dollar items for way cheap and brag about how much less I paid for it than someone else LOL

Yes I love to go through the Goodwill stores or the private little shops that are second hand stores, flea markets or whatever, just browsing you can find all sorts of things that most of the time are new, things people got for birthdays, christmas, and didn't want. I was looking for a rack to hang my housecoat on in the bathroom and they wanted almost $4. at Wal-Mart, I found the same thing at the Goodwill for 99 cents, Hey I am willing to save a few bucks anytime I can. I have a hand signed picture with a letter of authenticy attached to the back, for $3.00 it is a well know painter and although they refused to hold it because I had already spent what I had they refused to take a check, I had to call my daughter to come bring me the money because they said it must be a mistake, the mistake was they didn't check the letter attached to it, they was either going to take it for themselves or put a higher price tag on it after I left, but the price was $3. so they had to sell it. There are many great finds in a thrift store if you have the time to browse.

My brother bought a second hand cell phone once. The price of a second hand cell phone are much cheaper than a new one. We did not had any second clothes store here though. People sold second hand clothes here but mostly in the streets or really small kiosk. For clothes, usually I just waited for a big sale from the brand name clothes company. 50-70% sale. usually they do that twice a year.

I have trouble finding things for myself at second hand stores. But, I always find clothes for my kids. Many of them still have original tags. My 9 year old is starting to look at brand names, so I bought her a ton of clothes from the local second hand store for $30 and they were all Old Navy, Gap, Justice, Limited Too, etc. She was thrilled, and so was my wallet.

yes i go to second hand stores and they're great!..sometimes there are even items for sale much cheaper but a lot nicer compared to department stores. In our place we have a lot of second hand stores and when I'm out I don't waste a single second not visiting these stores.

I do shop there. I like yard sales better. You can find good buys at both.

I love, love, looooove second hand stores! Well, I'd love them more if there were some good ones closer to where I live. But any chance I get, I will shop there before going to a regular chain or department store to purchase brand new. It's amazing some of the great stuff you can find really cheap if you happen to be in the right store at the right time. And I'm totally in love with second hand bookstores. I'm a complete book addict and I'd never be able to support my habit if I had to pay full price for every one I purchase. I'd probably need to take out a second or third. . . or fourth mortgage to pay for all the books I'd like to buy. lol

I don't mind shopping at second hand stores. My husband thinks they are dirty but it would be the same as shopping at a garage sale but with AC. I like finding some awesome deals but thats everywhere not just at second hand stores.

I live in Canada and we have a big second hand store chain that is everywhere. It is called Value Village and here in Calgary there are quite a few outlets so I can go to more than one and get a variety of things I can buy. Just yesterday, which is three weeks after you posted this discussion, I went to one of the outlets and I bought 2 pairs of shorts, a blouse, a sweater, and a housecoat, all for just under $30. Not bad, I say. Next week I want to go back and buy some jeans. I got tired of waiting in the line to try the clothes on, so I only went in once to try on things, and I didn't want to stand in line again to try on jeans. Hoepfully it won't be as busy next time I go. I haven't gone to a second hand clothing store very often and had actually forgotten about them, till I started a discussion here about losing weight and I got a lot of responses that suggested I go to a second hand store to buy some new old clothes. I am still losing weight so I don't want to be spending much on clothes, but the clothes I own now are all too big so I had to get some. I think I will be going to Value Village a lot more in the future.

I dont usuall do that but I agree there are great bargains to be had. I once got a beautiful jacket for five dollars. I went once last year when I needed to get some expensive looking clothes in a hurry. I got some things I liked.

I don't go into second hand stores, but I do buy stuff second hand online. I can never be bothered to rummage through the mess in second hand shops as there are no neat organised ones near me.
