The Opryland Theme Park in Nashville, TN opened in 1972 and closed in 1997. It was a great theme park with a country music theme. It had thrill rides, a petting zoo, wonderful contry music shows and places to eat. I've never been to a theme park that quite measures up to Opryland. Did you ever visit the Opryland Theme Park?

I'm sorry you missed it. There will never be another Opryland.

I never got a chance to visit there and my daughter now lives in Nashville. But I don't think she was there before 1997. The last amazing thing I saw in Nashville was the Opryland Hotel. They have a boat ride that goes through the hotel. At Christmas this place is more like a fantasy than a place where you sleep. They now have one in Orlando but it is nothing compared to the one in Nashville. Dolly Parton ,her mom, and sister stay in the hotel a lot. Sure wish I had had a chance to visit that theme
park. Why did it get shut down?

According to what I have read on the web it was because the attractions were getting to expensive to maintain. It had been open since 1972 and I guess everything eventually wears out. The Opryland Hotel is close by where the theme park was located, and Opry Mills Mall is on the site.

I missed out on the Opryland Theme Park in TN. I did go to the Dutch Wonderland Theme park in PA. While undergoing training at the Indian Town Gap Military Reservation nearby, my future bride came out to see me. We spent part of our time at Dutch Wonderland. I'm sure the Opryland Theme Park was a much better Theme Park. Dutch Wonderland was unremarkable.

I actually didnt live that far away from the Opryland Theme Park and i went a couple of times a year. They had some awesome rides and was beautiful at Christmas time. It killed me when they closed it and put a mall in its place.

I loved Opryland too. My husband and I went there together as teenagers and then we took our daughter there when she was a baby. Nashville is trying to get some sort of new theme park now but I think they should have re-invested in Opryland instead of spending billions on something new and not as good.
