Would you ever eat collard greens on pizza while pregnant? What did you crave?

Did you crave weird stuff when you were pregnant?
When I was pregnant, I craved pizza and collard greens with hot sauce. Can you imagine? What an odd combination. Of course, I never tried collard greens on pizza at the same time. But I'll bet smothered in cheese that puppy would have tasted good. (no, I did not actually try a puppy on my pizza, LOL!) Though I was so hungry once that I almost speared my spouse in the hand when he reached across the table and helped himself to my food. I credit the baby for such actions. She is here now and her current personality is the same as it was before she was born. Fiesty, but sweet.
Anyway, those were my strangest cravings. I didn't crave icecream or cake at all. And, mostly I couldn't risk having too much sugar because of my near gestational diabetes scare. That set me straight on eating sweets while pregnant. Those two did not mix.
But, I craved the pizza, mostly because it had tomato sauce and that has folic acid. Or, maybe the crust has folic acid. The body needs that during pregnancy for a healthy baby. You can get it from enriched breads, pasta and such.
Some people say the baby is the one influencing the cravings. I've heard that it could be other factors, like hormones. Honestly, I have always believed that there's a built-in system that makes a woman crave foods that contain the nutrients that the baby needs most. That's what I think anyway.
What's the weirdest thing you craved while pregnant? Would you ever eat any of those foods now? Or, do you wonder how you could have ever eaten foods like that when you look back on the whole experience?

I had the weirdest cravings when I was pregnant with my oldest child! I craved more "normal" things such as salt and vinegar chips, smarties, BigMacs etc, but then there were the really odd even gross combinations, like Mustard mixed with Chocolate Ice Cream....ewww...then Mc Donalds Fries with the hot fudge sundaes. With my second pregnancy it was subway sandwiches, and watermelon, with my third pregnancy it was just icecream, and my last pregnancy was nothing, I didn't want to eat as everything gave me major heartburn!

I hear ya! I had heartburn every minute of everyday that I was pregnant. Only way I got through it was TUMS. Or, was it Rolaids? I can't remember. They had tons of calcium too. And, that was not a bad thing!

ty for the best response it is so good to know that people out there want to hear about things I don't get to talk about on a day to day basis! For me there was no relief from the heartburn, so I ate very small amounts scattered throughout the day so I wouldn't have to suffer too much!

You are more than welcome! I love to talk. As for the tip on heartburn. That's a great idea. Personally, I was so anti-medication during my pregnancy, that I almost didn't do the anti-acid. But, it was a killer! I had to get some relief. It was non-stop. I think they call it acid relux. But, the smaller meals would have helped ease that I'm sure.
(P.S. Have you considered that the cravings for vinegar chips, Big Macs etc were just salt cravings?) I had tons of salt cravings. I think that's a very valid craving. The pregnant body needs all kinds of foods, vitamins and minerals it might normally ignore. And, that includes salt.
Thanks for making my day with your wonderful presence! You have been a joy to speak with.

For my son I craved pork chops and ketchup even though I am not a ketchup person. It was crushed ice with my first daughter, nothing else. But the last daughter was hardest because I wanted orange kool aid and lots of it. I would drink glasses of it and then have to throw up. After that I wanted more. I am glad those times are over.

Honestly! I think that's the most amazing craving. I have never heard of such. It is unfortunate that the baby does not always agree with our cravings.

I had horrible Taco Bell cravings. Just the smell of Taco Bell made me sick, though! lol If I could get the first bite into my mouth without gagging, I could usually eat whatever I wanted from Taco Bell, but it was always such a challenge!
The main thing I wanted from Taco Bell was Nachos and bean burritos together. Sometimes I would just get the Nacho Bell Grande and that would work, too.

Nacho Bell Grande! I wish I'd had pregnancy cravings like that. I used to eat that stuff all the time. But, we don't live near a Taco Bell anymore. It's a real commute just for a burritto binge. LOL!
