Does anyone else have a sock monster in their house?

You know it is the strangest thing because we buy socks in pairs and wear them in pairs so what happens to them in the washer/dryer? We must have a sock monster because we always have a basket full of socks with no matches. It is really frustrating! Do you have a sock monster living in your house?

It seems like I'm always losing socks somehow. I know it happened quite a lot when I was younger. Everytime we'd do a load of laundry, I'd have at least one pair of socks that was missing it's twin. For some odd reason it's kind of leveled out and it doesn't happen as often as it used to. Sometimes it still does but it hasn't happened here in awhile. I think it happened when I did laundry at school at once.

As long as I have lived, the sock monster has lived with me. It is absolutely maddening. I know the matching socks went into the washer, but by the time they get out of the dryer, poof, only one sock...

The washing machine sucks them down the drain. I've posted this in another discussion before. When i was a kid the guy who came and pumped out the septic tank was complaining to my dad about the socks from septic tanks clogging up the trucks hose. He said that they went down the drain when the washer was pumping out. I believe it because were times when i went to take my socks out of the washer and they were partly down under the spinner. Now...when i wash my socks I make a point of putting my socks in an old pillow case that zips up and I don't lose half as many socks. The socks i do lose...i find under a bed or dresser at a later date.

see i am convinced that there is this void that forms in everyones homes that things vanish into and are either deposited in a place other then where you last put it or make them vanish forever. and its a pain because then not only do you have a mismatched sock but you now also have to eventually end up buying a brand new set of socks which cost you more than you need to spend. you know what i would do is buy a pair of socks that you dont really need and pay a tribute to this sock monster so that he wont steal your socks anymore.

Once when my washing machine was on the blink I took my laundry to a laundro-mat. It was one that also did service-washes for restaurants and care-homes. Anyway the lady that worked there saw that I had balled up my socks and told me to loosen them when I washed them because they would get cleaner that way. When I said I did that because then I would know I always had a pair of the correct ones she looked at me like I was a nutcase. But I have to admit that the hungry sock monster does not come to visit me. I think the having them balled up they tend to get stuck in his throat. Maybe he doesn't like the taste of socks that "apparantly" dont get as clean as they should.
