They ran out of gas at the gas station by my house today!

I stopped in the gas station by my house today on my way out of town to grab a soda. I had already gassed up the day before. When I pulled up the owner was outside putting a sign on the pump. She was supposed to get gas this morning, but they had not shown up. The gas station up the road about 4 miles had run out earlier today, so people were all going to her. So, for the poor people who really needed gas, they had to drive a minimum of 15 miles from where they were to get to the next place that sold gas. Have you ever seen a gas station out of gas before?

I feel bad for her. It is a holiday weekend and her gas delivery does not show up. I hope it came later. I would hate for her to lose out on all that business.

well interestingly i used to work in a gas station and i have never heard of this happening. did you happen to ask why the station ran out because them tanks are huge and people have really only been putting in what they need and not traveling great distances if they can help it so they can keep thier gas usage to a bear minnimum considering the current gas prices. this is really unusual.

It is a gas station out in the middle of nowhere and it is a small one at that. She had not been keeping them full because she does not do all that much business. Last week she kept her gas about 10 cents a gallon cheaper than all the other stations around there, so she got more business. I used to manage a gas station, so I do know how much gas the big gas station chains keep in their tanks. This place also still has above ground tanks and they are not nearly as big as the underground tanks.

Wow! My guess is that the station waits until it's absolutely low as possible before ordering because of the high price of it and then something like a rush for the weekend can throw them off completely! That's kind of scary! I haven't seen it locally but it does make you wonder. I recall the 80's when stations were running out of gas all over.

No, I have never heard of it before. I imagine if you live in a place that didn't get their gasoline delivery then it could be possible, or if the supply is low around the area. However since we have lots of gasloine stations around I'm thinking that it wouldn't happen in the city where I live.

I live in the middle of nowhere, and a lot of people fill up when they go to town, so she does not do all that much business out here.

Back in the 70's there were times that stations ran out of gas. Supposedly there was shortage, but there were barges full of it sitting on the river not being used. A lot of the price and shortage issues that we hear are trumped up things to rationalize why they're charging to much for gas. It's jut like when the raise prices because there's a hurricane "pedicted" that might damage the refineries.

Actually yes, and I live in a small one horse town so you have a good drive to the next town. It was many years ago, though.

That is the same way it is here. I hope no one stopped in there on fumes today.

Yes, a friend works for one, and the owner won't order gas for some reason. The station hasn't had any for over a month. I don't know why. My friend doesn't even know if she will have her job tomorrow. Her hours have been cut a lot, so she is making less than half as much as she had been earning.

Oh my that's really terrible! I wonder what caused the shortage? Is it because prices were too high so the gas owners didn't order as much gas anymore? That's never happened to me before I usually fill up before my tank's empty, but it would really be a bummer to have to drive that far just to get gas! I mean, the car's already out of gas but you need to use up more gas just to get gas1 How crazy is that?!
