How much does your doctor know about diabetes?

I am convinced that most medical doctors don't know how to adequately treat their diabetic patients. I once mentioned this to a retired doctor who actually taught at a medical school in the USA. To my astonishment he imediately agreed with me. He didn't hesitate to tell me I'm right. I am also certain that most glucose monitering meters give inaccurate results. Several times I have tested the same drop of blood three times and got three completely different readings. I have also cheched my blood on two different meters and got totally different readings. What are your experiences on this topic?

I do not totally agree with you. It might be true for some of the American doctors. But I believe as a member of this fraternity though in a far away land I might explain the situation. I believe you will not consider these reasons as lame excuses. 1.Most medical doctors are not meant to treat diabetic patients. There are specialized doctors for them. In the era of specialization many doctors who are general practitioners do not get time to keep tab on the progress of DM treatment. I give you an example. The blood sugar levels for diagnosis of DM has varied quite a lot over recent years. Now how can a orthopedic surgeon know or apply all this when he has to deal patients of a different category altogether? Accepted that if a diabetic who comes with a broken rib will be treated by the doctor but the doctor is regulated by rules that compels him to work in conjunction with another doctor who possess more skill in treating Diabetes mellitus than he himself. What I have told I believe might be a reason for the ignorance of a doctor about treating DM. But I have a strong notion that it is not the case with doctors from India. As specialization is in adolescence in India and superspecialization in infancy, so Indian Doctors do not have the liberty to forget about what they read 20 years back. well even then I am not telling you not to demand something from your doctor, but what i am telling you is to choose your doctor carefully. Have a healthy life.
