Have any of you had a complete one? I would appreciate your sharing with me as I will be having this operation soon. Thanks

Hi dixie. Well.. uhm for the record I did not have hysterectomy. :D It was my mom. I can share my experience as a third-person. Well, first, the reason was because of myoma / cysts and her ovaries (both)/uterus had to be removed. I was at the hospital with my sister until the day of the operation until she was allowed to go home. The surgery didn't take that long though around 1-2 hours if I'm not mistaken. Preparation isn't all that complicated. Simple rest and fasting will do. A few tests will also be made regarding the operation specifics such as the anesthesia. After the operation, it went well and she took some medicine. It increases/creates hormones to balance out the reproductive system as the ovaries have been taken out. Oh... just a minor note. Right after the operation, my mom was in the recovery room, I was shocked. My mom's doctor showed me the uterus and the ovaries. That's where I came from....

It's not the big deal it used to be! You'll have a very small scar with all the neat new equipment they have. It doesn't hurt much, either. You'll probably need hormones afterward because it makes you go into menopause but that's no problem, either. I had them leave my ovaries since there was nothing wrong with them, keep whatever parts you can! Don't worry about it, you're in and out in about 36 hours and you can just thumb your nose and laugh when you pass the "feminine hygiene" aisle!

I take this stuff seriously. First of all I would never have this done unless I really needed to and yes there are times it does have to be done. If it has to be done than I would go to big city where they have better doctors. It's OK to say that they have have new and better equipement these days and right enough they do but it's another thing to find a doctor that knows what he's doing. I saw a case right here where a young woman gave birth and they had decided no more children and all she had done was child birth first then tubes were cut and tied. The doctor nicked her bowel and she wound up with mental problems and lost her arms and legs before they found out what went wrong. There was a law suite and the woman lost of course. As far as saving good overies I disagree with this. If ever I need a hysterectomy they will need to take ovaries and all or nothing. I have known of too many friends that left it to the doctor to decide and the new thing now is leave the ovaries. Funny how I know of three people who had to later go back and have ovaries out and two others got cancer in the ovaries a few years later. I think no matter how good the ovaries are it's like anything else say you pay 100 dollars a pound for a steak, no matter how good it is it will eventually go bad if left alone and nothing done with it. This is just my take on it. I'm not against hysterectomy but I think it needs to be done right. Just my two bits. Good luck.
