What's the deal?

What's with people seemingly not responding to certain discussions because they are afraid of getting chastised for their opinions? What are you so afraid of? So what if someone doesn't agree with you? If opposing opinions are never expressed, how can anyone learn anything new? I have heard others complain about this, as well.

I ansewr most anything that i find intresting. I don't hand out my opinion without being asked which is why i like this site so much EVERYBODY is asking your opinion so you can give it freely. I do try not to be hateful or nasty about it, but give it i do. An i enjoy reading what others are saying because it gives me a different point of view.

I just wish more people around here were willing to step into discussions to share their opinions even if everyone else is disagreeing with them. It seems like a lot of members are afraid to do that because people will disagree with them...

I'm with you there, Molly! We need discussions and the best discussions are controversial by necessity! If everyone agreed with everything, myLot would shrivel and die. So jump in there with both feet, forget your star rating, ( it will only go down) be a Good myLot member and tell it as you see it!

I think that some of us, well me probably, get caught up in being proud of having got to a blue star ten and yet its just a silly star. I mean so I got kicked down in two days to a six 'then got up to a 7. common sense tells me that I am just as good now in posting discussions' and responses as I was back at ten, so it has to be pride.I know that not everyone will agree with me nor I with them but I like to be respected for my opinions as I respect others for theirs. You are right in that we might learn new things if we keep our mouths shut and our minds and eyes open.

In my experience (though not always) people with a lower star are way more interesting than people with a higher one.

i dont think its so much fear thats the culprit here so much as it is they dont have anything to add to the conversation so they dont post. i know i dont post to disscussions that i dont have anything to add to. at that point my thoughts become banter and its a waste of everybodys time. then again a lot of times i have a very different way of looking at things and my ideas and experiance can be a good addition to the disscussion...at least i try to make it that way. it just really depends on how a person feels about a subject.

I have seen people say they refuse to answer discussions where they have to give opinions on "controversial" issues because they are afraid of being attacked or disagreed with.. I probably see that at last 3 times a day on here lol.

well, i never afraid to express my opinion here... as long as i think the discussion is interesting and i have something to say, i will say something... if those trolls are not happy with what i say, they can just stay away from me and keep quiet... we are entitled to speak up our opinions here... take care and have a nice day...

for me it depends on the topic. something are not even worth my time replying too. Some people are just not open minded and take things you say as a personal attack. I have learned to pick my battles if i need to have one. and mylot topics are not a place i need to battle. Sometimes saying nothing speaks a lot louder then saying something

I only respond to discussions that I am interested in and I have something worth contributing (in my mind not necessarily others). There is no part of myLot that I would regard as "off limits" but I don't tend to bother with religion or myLot stars - there have been exceptions in both. Most of the contributors have nothing new to say and end up spouting their viewpoint to the exclusion of anyone else's.

answering controversial threads is nice for a habit however some people are indeed too confrontational to not respect other's opinion. i think what's important is that we have a strong conviction of what we believe in and have posted, that no matter how rude others might get when reacting, we'd know we'd still stick to our opinion. i had just one experience of this here at mylot and it's annoying...but hey, i'm entitled to my own opinion so i didn't feel abused or aggravated. =)

about the problem ,i just think that is the society problem. In China, someone isn't freedom fo speech in the publice , bacause if you speaker you really opioion ,it about the country, society ,company and so on .you will have a payback. FOR EXAMPLE : Two weeks ago,In China, Sichuan have a earthquake.so the country have a day of commemation, these days must be stop all entertainment (CONTAIN THE TV ). a girl is very enjory the play games. She goes to the internet bar ,but the bar stop the games, she is very unhappy and speaker swearwords on the internal video .so she hava a payback that the police catch she.
