What do you do when waiting?

China

A large proportion of our time is wasted during waiting. Wait to grow up, wait for be loved, wait for a child, wait for child to grow up maybe. We also wait for some routine work, most common is that we have to wait for buses or subways, then what do you do? Will you get a newspaper to read news, or will you take out your cellphone to get in touch with your friends or colleagues, or you just watch people come and go to kill time? I'm just curious what you guys will do? Please share~~

When i wait for somebody or just wait for my turn, i'll look around first, to see if there's some beautiful girls~ If is i'll try to talk with her because that's the best way to kill time. If i'm not that lucky i'll just listen to music or just send some messages by my cellphone. You haven't shared your way of killing time when waiting, and i'm looking forward to yours! Just have a nice day!

Oh, beautiful girl, then i'd look around and searching for handsome boys, huh? LOL. I choose different when waiting. If i'm in a bus, i'd try to call my families, my sister always complain about the noisy in the bus. If i'm in the house, wow, a variety of choice, i can listen to the music in the radio, i like this way, music at random, update ones, the broadcast anchor will not cosider whether i'd like it or not, so i can hear those music i don't listen too much~~ Watching TV, still many choices, you know. Wash clothes, it's great, i will not be upset and can stop whenever the waiting's over. Clean houses~~ If in a queue i'd send short messages to friends and see news i subscribed on my cellphone. If outside house, maybe look at handsome boys like u, but i bet i will definitely not talk with them, lol Oh, hard to list all, stop here Thanks for responding, kianli **Enjoy life~~**

Yeah I agree way to much time is wasted waiting,I am very impatient and I cant stand to wait, but I try not keep others waiting, usually if me and my fiance are waiting, depending on where we are we will either watch television,or we will call one of our friends,or I will play a video game, most of our friends dont keep us waiting long, but one friend in particular is bad about making us wait an hour, each time we meet her, like one time me and my fiance were waiting for her at the library, and we waited like an extra 30 minutes after we called her before we left, and she was still late,I hate it when people do that.Another time we went to another county to see her friends, and that same friend was gonna be an hour late, even though she knew the meeting time was three oclock like a week in advance, and we ended up leaving due to circumstances out of our control.

That's too bad. I hate this bad behavior too. Why can't they be punctual, they can do their own businesses after the meeting, it will not make big difference. Someone just love this, don't understand. Next time tell her an hour earlier, or one and a half earlier, and let her experience the painstaking process of waiting. Or maybe we can just go alone, don't wait for her if she knows the meeting room

I do wonder about, but i somehow doubt my weird thought. It turned out you two are a couple. So interesting and glad. Small world, or you just reply to the same discussion? How sweet you are, i couldn't help envying~~~ Good luck to you both. I always make myself punctual, all the time, but if i have to be late, i'd send a short message, most of the time, i call them to explain and express my sorry to them. Phone is better than message from my point of view, it shows my respect. If my friend keeps me waiting, i will not behave my normal way, just at random, i will be late too, if she doesn't care why should i care. I can forget her late for one or two times, but not always. If she's my best friend, we talk everything,i will try talking to her. She may have the same problem when meeting others, i shold correct her. If she doesn't listen, i will not try again. That's it, I have the tolerance limits Enjoy life~~

Yeah I know why cant people be punctual, and I agree nothing can be important enough when you are meeting a friend you dont see alot, unless it is an emergency, and thats when you call and say you will be late, she never calls when she is gonna be late, the only way we know anything is if my fiance calls her, yeah I know we might want to try telling her an hour or so earlier then we plan on getting there,or I really like the idea of making her wait,to get a message across, even though she might complain about having to wait, and incase you are wondering me and SomeCowGirl do know each other, infact she is my fiance.

Hi lynettebyc, It's true that sometimes we have to wait for something we need to arrive or happen in order to allow us to continue on our chosen path. In that case, the waiting is an opportunity to do something else which assists our ambitions, until we can resume the original activity. BUT in some cases, the waiting is sufficient, because while we are waiting, we are watching, and the experience of observing might be our objective. So a parent always waits to see the outcome of the child's growth and learning, but the child's journey through life is as of much interest to the parent as the child's destination. So the waiting is watching, and is an essential part of the parent's life.

Hi again, Almost forgot - if I'm caught waiting for something to happen, then I'll look around for something else useful to do in the meantime. Maybe scan some documents, or check the latest world news, or do some other task that is incomplete, or tidy up something that needs to be tidied, or try to learn something, or telephone a relative whom I haven't talked to for a while, or quickly prepare a meal and set it cooking, or if the waiting time is short or intermittent - even just practice a card game to exercise my mental faculties. I can't stand NOT doing something, because there are too many things to do in the limited time available. In a perfect world, each task would be complete before the next one begins. But it's not a perfect world, and so all the jobs are like a bowl of spaghetti.

Hi,dodoguy, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Waiting for a child to grow up can be of great interest and also painstaking. But, it is great, i guess all parents will love it. **Enjoy life~~**

You are right, lyn. Our whole life kinda goes off waiting for things we wish to happen or donot wish to happen with us. We wait for everything on earth, right from childhood to old age. We wait to see our aspirations take form. What striking is the fact that, this waiting makes us forget to live our life happily. Instead of enjoying the moment we worry for the future. We never live the present! I just wish we could live the moment a little more happily instead of waiting for the future. Thanks for a nice discussion.

Hello, mimpi, yeah, we always concern about the future, and wait for future, while during the process we can't enjoy ourselves as we are reluctant move our eyes from the upcoming incident. That's the problem, which results in most of our unhappinesses. Thanks for sharing **Enjoy life~~**

Well, usually I Will become impatient and use my cell phone to text or look things up on the internet... atleast when I had a phone, now i've got to get another one... i'll also observe people or go to constantly get water or maybe even stare at someone... There was one time my fiance and I were waiting for a friend of mine for over a half an hour and she finally showed up.

Hello, SomeCowgirl. I sometimes will use my cellphone to log on the internet, but it costs money, lol, so i don't always do this. Your friend is not punctual, to be honest, i don't like this kind of behavior, waiting will make people impatient and upset, don't know when the guy we're waiting will show up is painstaking. If she always acts like this, next time, tell her the meeting time half an hour earlier:) Enjoy life~~

My fiance just reminded me that on that same time, we had told her to be there at a certain time but we left 30 minutes after that because we know she's late.

Yeah, good idea. Some people just like to be waited, bad habit~~ It may not be our responsibility to teach them a lesson, but at least don't make ourselves upset about this. We have to change~~ Good luck

I think waiting is a big waste of time. But if there is one thing not to waste...time would be it! I try to plan head and even bring items with me to keep me active. If I know I will be on a plane I will bring a book or something to work on since I have a bag and time to sit. May as well get something done. If I know I have to wait but I know there might be no where to sit quietly I will plug in my head phones and listen to something productive like Tony Robbins (or even better Quiet Riot). Waiting can be a good time just to relax and think. That is something alot of people don't do very often.

Hello, kingcrapper, thanks for sharing. Yeah, maybe we should plan ahead and bring different items with us according to the waiting situation. Waiting in a queue, crowded one and waiting in a quiet benck in the park are different **Enjoy life~~**

HI, when I am waiting for something or for someone, I would normally grab something that I could read. If there's none, my pocket PC is always the best company because it has Word mobile where I could scribble my thoughts, for uploading later in my desktop. I'm lucky when there's a free wi-fi spot around. That would give me access to mylot. When Im done with my pocket pc, but still not done waiting, I use the time for planning ahead and daydreaming. That's it. But I hate waiting.

Hi, there. Wireless fidelity is great, we don't have to bring a net cable with us when enjoy the Internet. And i love free wi-fi spot too, lol. Daydreaming is not a bad idea, must be happy and joy to do this, huh? Thanks for sharing, i hate waiting too **Enjoy life~~**

What I usually do while waiting for the bus or train is to read. If not then I get some chips and munch on it. Or I'll just sit and people watch. Which is very entertaining. When I'm meeting someone and they are late I can't help but look at the time every few seconds. Then I get impatient and irritated. I always come on time if not earlier than agreed.

Hello, mimm45, good habit, be punctual:) Yeah, i'd keep watch time, and this will in turn accelerating my upset. I can't read on the bus, train is a little better, i'd feel dizzy and tired if reading. Thanks for sharing this **Enjoy life~~**

Hi, I hate waiting. So, I always will do something while waiting. Usually, I'll just look around and observe things around me. For example, observe a couple dating, observe why so many people at that shop and things like that. Or, I'll observe the cars that passing and play around with the car plate number. I'll practice simple math in that way. Haha..
• China
28 May 08
Hi, leanat. Interesting. Some of my friends will watch cars when they're on the street, try to figure out the brand and then admire for a while, some will talk about the price and complain that they are short of money, otherwise~~ A good choice, though i don't act like this, cause i don't know much about cars **Enjoy life~~**

a lot of my waiting time is done in doctors waiting rooms. I sometimes just watch the people around me and sometimes I read a magazine if they are current or I have notread them before. Waiting for food in a cafe I often buy a newpaper to read . waiting for buses just watch the traffic go by 'but I usually use access bus that comes to my apartment but I do have to wait maybe a half hour but am taken right to my destination.

HI,Hatley, i seldom go to the doctors', once or twice a year, so i don't have too much waiting experience there. But it's much better, at least it's quiet and we'll get a seat which makes waiting seems not that long **Enjoy life~~**

I don't wait and do nothing. While waiting for great things to happen in my life, I still stay focused on the important things that I have to do. I know some of us usually pause and wait for great things to happen in our lives, not knowing that we are taking for granted the other things that are most important life. It is not a bad thing to wait even for the impossible things to happen but what's important is that we should not let our waiting hypnotized us and keep us from doing our responsibilities and the other things that could actually top what we are wanting and waiting for. :0)
