I am a stockpiler I admit it. I do not feel that you should just have enough on hand for one days time. I feel like you should be prepared if hard times hit. We have a small container garden that we will can and freeze produce from. We go to the commissary for our meat because it is better quality and cheaper than the grocery store and we can stock up on it. We have a vacuum sealer we use with the meats and other frozen products so they last longer in the freezer. We have a nice big deep freeze. Some months are better for us than others so we have food stored for the slim months. We have two pantries and also keep a shelf unit in the florida room for our stockpile (the garage gets too hot here in Florida). I think with the economy the way it is this is wise. So do you stockpile?

these are the things that we buy in bulk and store for the next few months' use: laundry soap, toilet paper, table napkins, and the like.
for food, i know you have to be prepared for emergencies, but i just can't make myself stockpile meat and other poultry products. these are the kind of things that are only good if bought fresh. you dont' want to eat food that are almost expired right? so what we usually do is store, canned goods for emergencies and if it is nearing their expiration dates, we eat them already and replaced them with new ones. something that would help us out during emergencies but not sacrifice the freshness that is good for our health.

I have a deepfreeze and a vacuum sealer I use for my meats and frozen foods. The vacuum sealer keeps the meat from getting freezer burn and from picking up other mystery flavors from the freezer. I can keep meat and poultry for 6 months atleast sometimes longer. I always make sure we have meat on hand cause it tends to be very expensive. We shop for our meat and poultry at the commissary most often cause it is cheaper there for a better quality.

that's good. the more time you could preserve your meat, the better it is. it's just that i haven't tried it yet. i would probably try it and see.

I do have extra things stockpiled. I buy items I can get almost free with coupons or that is on sale for a great price. I have extra sugar and flour on hand. I have shampoo, soap, toliet paper, toothpaste, deodorant, laundry soap and drier sheets. I also have lots of water that I rotate around.
