Hi there. To get rid of hiccups, Ive always held my breathe for 10 seconds and then drank down some water, and that always works well for us. Have a great day...

The two remedies I usually try are eating a spoonful of peanut butter (you flip the spoon upside down and leave it in your mouth until you have sucked all the peanut butter off), and drinking water from the wrong side of a cup. That involves putting your bottom lip inside the cup and leaning forward to drink. I recommend doing this over easily-mopped surfaces and not carpet. The theory behind both remedies is that it engages some of the muscles that are spasaming and causing you to hiccup.

my hubby had them for about 24 hours and ended up going to emergency to get rid of them. They gave a very strong muscle relaxant that they give to patients that they need to calm down. after taking this and sleeping for awhile, they went away.

I do have hiccups sometimes. When this happens, I try to hold my breath for around ten seconds or so. It works for me! I do not know if it works for everyone though.

Drinking some more water would sometimes do the trick. After which you try to inhale and exhale slowly. When you inhale, hold it for a few seconds before you exhale. Do that repeatedly for about a minute or two. Also if you can force yourself to burp(sometimes we can do that)it's much better. Hiccups from what I understand is caused by some air or something caught in in your system while eating especially if you're eating fast. I just heard it though., I'm not sure if that is true.

What I did when I got them was to hold my breath for 10 seconds and gulp 3 times during the 10 seconds and after doing this a few times they really did stop. Also, I heard that carbonated beverages such as soda has helped to stop the hiccups. I think it's from eating too fast, but you could probably find out the more physiological reasons that hiccups occur from widopedia or webmd. Take care.
