What Size/Type of Venue Do You Prefer?

What kind of venue do you prefer when seeing a band? A small one like a coffee shop or bar. A medium sized venue like a club or theater. Or, lastly a large venue like an Arena or Stadium. Do you like outdoor shows? I like Club sized venues the most. They're kind of small (but not too small) and intimate, yet there are enough people around to really get a good vibe going. Almost all the shows I go to are at clubs. I go to coffee shops sometimes. I rarely go to Arena or Staduim shows because ticket prices are sooo high. Club shows are usually pretty cheap ($10-$20), so I can actually afford to go to those more. I don't really like outdoor venues as much. It's kind of weird seeing some bands out in the daylight, I like the lighting on stage and the darkness in the crowd during indoor shows.

My favorite is the bar scene, with a couple hundred people, 500 or fewer. But I don't get to go to those shows very often. Bar shows (around here anyway) are almost always $10 or cheaper and it's so much easier to hang out with the bands after the show. Like when I saw Kill Hannah at a dive in Colorado Springs, their bassist, Greg Corner, was actually running their merch table before and after the show. Also, there is no bad place to be in a bar. No matter where you stand you are in a good place to see the band. In clubs and arenas, it's so easy to get stuck behind people or to be so far back from the stage that the band members all look the same.

The clubs around here are all pretty small, so I like those for the reasons you mention liking bar sized. I love Kill Hannah, they're my favorite band...I've seen them five times...twice in Chicago, once in Detroit (the first time I saw them, and that venue was TINY, which was cool) and twice in Grand Rapids, MI.

I've missed out on seeing them as many times as you've seen them. LOL I wish I had the money to go to Chicago for the New Heart for Christmas show. Maybe next year. But they come through Colorado twice a year and almost always hit the smaller venues.
