How long would your food supply last?

If a major disaster happened in your area, or if for some reason there was a shortage of food where the store shelves were empty - or if a gas shortage meant the stores couldn't get food brought to them - how long would the supply of food you have on hand last?

Excluding meat we could go about 6 months with out food. I have a nice stock pile since the US economy is so unpredictable right now. I have stocked up on canned goods and boxed items. I go when it's on sale and I have a coupons and get it close to free.

It sounds like you're very well prepared. I totally agree that we need to be prepared in light of the state of the economy.

I think most probably the food in my house could last for at least a month or so. My husband and I usually like to stock extra foods like rice, flour, beverages, biscuits etc for a month. We do plant vegetables, tapiocas, sweet potatoes, yams and fruit trees in our courtyard which could supply extra foods.

I think it's good to be prepared - you never know when you might not be able to get to the store, or when something might occur that would affect the supply line to the store.

A week or so, maybe. We're growing some of our own food, so that'd help lengthen the time frame a bit.
I've some granolas and cereals tucked away seperate from our family's main emmergency supply in the kitchen which're the "just in case, last line of food supply rations" lol.
A gas shortage would also mean other things. Certain electricity companies would have to shut down because of lack of transportation for their supplies, lack of ability for their employees to get there to keep things running.
It would mean that the police wouldn't be driving anywhere, and that businesses would shut down as well.
So, food would not be the only problem.

Not very long I'm afraid. I am all for preparedness and everything related to that. The problem is money. I don't have enough to do that so, I'm just stuck with hoping nothing bad happens, I surely cannot afford it.

I started by buying one extra thing whenever I went to the store and putting it back in the closet in a special box. It's off limits unless there's dire need.
